Outer Space

This video gave me serious chills. Just beautiful...

http://vimeo.com/40234826

I found the video over at the Bad Astronomers blog here.

The events depicted take days, even weeks to play out. Yet somehow, the quick shots and fast cuts — necessary because in many cases there really aren’t very many images to play with — add to the majesty and grandeur of what you see. I suppose that’s no more paradoxical than having canvases far bigger than Earth, yet loaded with detail packed into those vast frameworks.

The Universe is magnificent on every scale, both in space and time. That’s one of the reasons I like working there.

....with certain caveats.

de grassi implies that the future is equated with technology and forgets that technology is part of the problem. human beings have other kinds of dreams beyond technological ones.

we need as much investment in the arts and in moral and psychological training, which will lead to improvements in the intense interpersonal problems we as a species face.

nasa must also be absolutely non-military and non-corporate (actually, everything should be).
