(60,332 posts)He told me to start exercise, my dog demands daily walks since.
I was really out of shape and over weight.
It was weird that as soon as he told me to start with walking, the dog thinks she needs the walk and is dragging me with her. Not anyone else in the house, just me.
I have already lost more than 10 pounds, so the dog is pretty smart.
This dog is pretty smart all the way around and has ways to tell us what she needs. She was a rescue dog who has adapted better than one could ever expect. She has revealed herself over the two years we have had her and is really become part of the family.

(35,619 posts)I don't know how they know, but they know. I think that's a great story. It amuses me to no end that your pup-dog now thinks a walk is indispenable.
I'm a cat person, but when I drive to work, I love to watch people walking their dogs. The dogs look so happy, and it's like they are saying, "This is MY time."
My neighbors let me walk their dog, a beautiful golden lab named Chloe. I have had many wonderful times walking with her.
Here's to you and many long walks with your dog.

(60,332 posts)It is why man domesticated them I think. It is why they work their way into our hearts.
Funny thing is I wasn't for getting this dog after our last one had to be put down, but she shows more love than any of the dogs we have had in the past.

(1,616 posts)"Bernie needs a bath," Bernie would suddenly get another one of us to let him outside. If we then thought, "Oh, maybe another day," Bernie would scratch to come back in. And then when the next thought was, "Oh, there he is, so we can bath him now," Bernie would again want to be let out. It was a pattern both my brother and I noticed.

(13,141 posts)I would visualize something - and it often seemed the dog could understand, that I could convey the visual picture of what I wanted from her. Sounds a little crazy but it seemed to have some validity whenever I tried it.
