Weather looks good for Mars rover launch attempt Thursday

The 45th Space Wing forecasts 80% chance for good weather on Thursday for a launch of the Mars Perseverance rover on an Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

The initial forecast released Sunday predicts favorable conditions for the two-hour launch window that opens at 7:50 a.m.

“For launch day Thursday, overall conditions are favorable. However, an isolated shower just offshore and some mid-level clouds along the coast are likely as a weak front off the coast of the southeast sags southward. Therefore, the primary concerns for launch day are the Cumulus Cloud and Thick Cloud Layer Rules,” the forecast said.

A 24-hour delay to Friday would see a 90% chance for favorable conditions.
