Fossil remains now go back 4.4 million years, predating Lucy by nearly 2 million years. https://www.livescience.com/nearly-complete-lucy-ancestor-skull-unearthed.html

I just wonder if we'll ever find remains of the creature that predates the split between homonins and chimpanzees.
