I thought our blue skies on Earth were a reflection from the oceans..just wondering..

No a "reflection." Oceans are blue because that is the wavelength of light that penetrates deepest and is reflected back to the surface.

Shallower seas are often green.

In those pictures, the colors are probably enhanced and jiggered to make non-visible light visible to our eyes. Probably how the black of deep space appears blue.

... dust illuminated by the bright stars.

Notice how the sky is black in the upper left corner or the image.

Likewise there is bluish dust glowing in the foreground of the nebula.

Didn't know about 1925 being such a breakthrough year.
