The astonishing 2,500 year old tattoos of a Siberian princess, and how they reveal little has change

The intricate patterns of 2,500-year-old tattoos - some from the body of a Siberian 'princess' preserved in the permafrost - have been revealed in Russia.
The remarkable body art includes mythological creatures and experts say the elaborate drawings were a sign of age and status for the ancient nomadic Pazyryk people, described in the 5th century BC by the Greek historian Herodotus.
But scientist Natalia Polosmak - who discovered the remains of ice-clad 'Princess Ukok' high in the Altai Mountains - is also struck about how little has changed in more than two millennia.

I am tattooed to my elbows, and from my knees to my ankles, with other parts in various stages of being worked on. My work is tasteful, and able to be hidden for work (though my students and colleagues don't seem to care about any of them).

Now I'm wild to know more about Siberia 2500 years ago, what kind of world, society she experienced.

Wow.

And this is why I'm a historian.
Makes me nuts that idiots like Rick Scott want to get rid of the humanities.

Right-wingers seem to intend to destroy EVERYTHING they haven't destroyed already.

All they want left is themselves, their money, their possessions which will include the poor people they expect to do the work for them.

One big fat bunch of dull, stupid clowns and their unlovely offspring, the new inheritors of the earth.

A high status burial like this would most likely be for a chief or queen. Article doesn't say if she was buried with weapons or how she died, whether of natural causes or a wound from battle. This could be an Amazon.

Usually the chiefs of those Steppe cultures were buried with horses and their wives as many of those tribes practiced suttee. Could the men buried with her be her husbands? I would be interested in finding out.
