Been gone for quite some time but it's great to see this group thriving. No apologists voluntarily throwing themselves under the bus here.
What have I missed?
trotsky
(49,533 posts)Dahling!
Just the usual suspects up to their same pontificating and strutting with how superior their religious beliefs are. "What's that you say, atheist? You disagree? Well I'm not going to respond to such militant attitudes!"
And don't forget, they're the tolerant ones who just want discussion and dialog.

(57,349 posts)I knew you'd never lay down.
I've become much more 'militant', kindly count me among the anti-theists.
beam me up scottie
(57,349 posts)Being an anti-theist does not mean that I would ever endorse or attempt to restrict religious freedom.
I just think the world would be a better place with fewer excuses to hate, persecute and murder people just because they're different.
Curmudgeoness
(18,219 posts)They really deep down already know that. And they don't have any valid reason to be here except to look for reasons to cause problems.
beam me up scottie
(57,349 posts)If they want to label me a hater they're going to have to work for it.
trotsky
(49,533 posts)You'd think they could get a more productive hobby, but I guarantee you that even the ones who have been blocked from posting in this group still come and stalk us here, poring over every post to try and find something to attack us with.
beam me up scottie
(57,349 posts)sigh...
Curmudgeoness
(18,219 posts)And I am aware of that....but if I am worried about what I have to say, I refrain from saying it. Like this morning I was in such a foul mood that I wanted to start a thread with the subject "I am sick of your f*&king god" after having to listen to the morality police tell me again about how abortion and birth control are the reasons to vote for Romney and why Obama is not Christian. No mention of the hate spewed because of religion, or the wars based in religion (all religions), or intolerance...I could go on and on, but I won't.
You notice that I did not start that thread because I knew better.

(13,029 posts)Welcome back! in some ways you've missed a lot, and in others nothing at all. Still the same dodging, ducking, weaving, special pleading and Xstian privilege that you loved before and that I'm sure has drawn you back

(57,349 posts)Thank you for the welcome back!
Seeking a safe place to vent in the next two weeks, I'm going to need a lot more than gin and anti-anxiety meds.
Never has teh stoopid hurt so much.
skepticscott
(13,029 posts)though not as much fun as venting in Religion.
But you're right, the level of stupid in this country has never been so high.

(57,349 posts)I have had years to cultivate a hatred for all things religious and I just can't shut up anymore.
Curmudgeoness
(18,219 posts)I really didn't stick my toes in this pond in DU2, and I still don't post much, but read all the time. And you won't see me in Religion. Well, not often.
So where ya been? Mental hospital? Prison? Afghanistan? Wherever it was, hope to see more of you.

(57,349 posts)I have been in a dark place for a while. My horse fell on my leg a few months ago and I haven't been able to ride, swim, kayak, hike or climb until recently.
The wild places were my refuge and my horses were my reason to get out of bed every day. I couldn't even train them with my boot on.
Feeling sorry for myself is no excuse, I dearly miss my friends on DU and apologize for neglecting you.
Curmudgeoness
(18,219 posts)Sorry......that just sounded like the old TV ad.
It is a bummer when you can't do the things that keep you sane. Hope the leg is better. And remember, the people here can help keep you sane. Well, unless you go to Religion.

(57,349 posts)I feel so lucky, I'm having cramps AND hot flashes at the same time. Woo Hoo! Hide the guns!
Thank you modern medicine for providing absolutely no information, advice or relief from the horror that is menopause...

Well, that was what my mother told me at the time....suck it up, Bucky.
Like lower pay, less chance at getting around that glass ceiling, carrying AND delivering a baby, and being treated like a lesser human being aren't punishment enough for that fucking apple incident!

(57,349 posts)Imagine how many medicinal remedies would be available to relieve, hasten or eliminate these symptoms if men were the afflicted?
Actually, now that I think about it, since men have to live with us wouldn't it be in their best interest to find a cure?
I can't remember the last time I went one day without apologizing for snapping at the Mister, or turning the thermostat to 40°F. He would probably approve of the locked in the attic solution.
argh
Curmudgeoness
(18,219 posts)they aren't dealing with it.....and they probably like to have an excuse to bitch about us. Now if was THEM feeling it! But you are right, it should be in their best interest.
I didn't do this because I was all into "natural", but I suggest hormones. As soon as those hormones stop entirely, you will see all kinds of "old person" changes. I was only 40 and wish I would have done it. I guess that is the only "new" solution they can come up with. Black cohash was suggested to me, but it didn't do a thing to help for me.
Oh well, pay for that original sin. And I hope you get through it quickly.

I always enjoyed your posts and hope to see more of them!

(57,349 posts)You guys are a lifeline, I have found a small pocket of blue people down here but they're as timid and unstable as I am.
Here I have a voice, here I don't feel like we stole the country from the real Americans who now want it back.
Sweet sweet sanity at last.

laconicsax got PPRd. We have banned a handful of people from posting in A/A.
Looking forward to seeing your posts again.

Goblinmonger
(22,340 posts)There's a post on it in A/A. Long story short, rug hotlinked to an images from laconicsax' photobucket account. laconic then changed the image and took screen shots with rug showing a pro-Romney picture and alerted on rug. Admin didn't take kindly to that.
beam me up scottie
(57,349 posts)Sounds like both were in the wrong, perhaps they only ts'd LS because he alerted?
We've all been there, please please please stop me from doing something self-destructive the next time I get that frustrated.
Shout out to laconicsax, you're missed.
Goblinmonger
(22,340 posts)if he hadn't alerted on the post, he'd have had a shot at sticking around.
trotsky
(49,533 posts)I've found my DU experience to be much more enjoyable now that I have him on ignore, too. All he wants to do is post inflammatory shit about atheism and get a rise out of people. He has zero interest in actual dialog or discussion.

(57,349 posts)But since I have to deal with intolerant christianists in the flesh every day it may be time to rectify that.

(10,437 posts)The Christianist anti-atheist types don't bother me much - they are useful to bait or laugh at and make no pretense of wanting to genuinely discuss issues in theology (and have for the most part been silent when I occasionally try to do so, which always fails as they sink like stones with near no serious input).
I have much less patience for those who loudly proclaim their desire for liberal ecumenicalism and alliance with nonbelievers against the Talibornagains, but refuse to condemn even egregious examples of Christianist behavior amongst their co-religionists here.
Pissing in my Wheaties just gets me to piss back more in yours. All square. Pretending you are raining gold upon me while doing that makes you beneath contempt.
It won't take you long to see the difference from both old and new godbotherers.
beam me up scottie
(57,349 posts)I used to try to moderate my tone when discussing theology because I didn't want to offend liberal believers. It took me years to realize that qualifiers weren't necessary for the truly liberal and were completely ignored by the anti-atheists.
The veterans in this group and R/T have good reason to be jaded.

(4,074 posts)I haven't been reading this forum as much. I don't go into R/T at all anymore. I've been focused on the election and there is a little problem at home. Specifically the little problem is 18 pounds, very smiley, and crawls like the wind.
Sorry to hear about your injury. I hope you had some good horror movies to watch while you were laid up.

I did find a few new flicks that were worth watching and of course the classics never get old.
