(28,151 posts)I can be respectful in that I don't indulge the urge to say things like "I can't believe you actually believe that nonsense" or what-have-you. I find avoiding the topic of religion to be best and mostly satisfy myself with extremely witty thoughts as moments of observation of believers present themselves.

(13,485 posts)about anything philosophical... I respect everyones right to believe what they want. That does not mean I respect everyone's belief. On the contrary, all ideas including beliefs need to be challenged, but not for the sake of changing anyone's mind except my own. People will change their own minds or they will not, that's their business.
On balance, I reserve the right to have and state whatever opinion I choose. I also choose to be respectful when appropriate but not by default.
