According to many scholars, the events of the nativity took place around 7 BC. Given that BC stands for before Christ [was born] and the nativity is the story of the birth of Christ, this means that Christ was born around 7 years before Christ was born.
This is actually one of the least illogical things to happen during the birth of Christ.
The Virgin Mary was betrothed to the carpenter Joseph. However, the Virgin Mary was pregnant with the Messiah. This occurred when Mary was visited by a heavenly angel named Gabriel who told her that she would become pregnant with a child who would be called Jesus, which is something of a self-fulfilling prediction; if an angel appears and tells you that an all-powerful God wants your baby to be named Jesus, youd probably go along with it. I recently met a child named Audi, so it doesnt take much to influence this decision.
According to the Bible, Mary asked the angel how she could become pregnant when she was a virgin, and the angel Gabriel told said to Mary that the Holy Spirit would come upon you.
In fairness, thats surprisingly close for a book written by old celibate men 20 centuries ago.

(9,356 posts)So according to the Official Story...the cattle, asses, etc. are all tucked up in the manger, nice and cozy. But the poor shepherds and their sheep are on top of a hill in the dead of winter, freezing their cojones off?
When I lived in Egypt, our vehicle often got stuck in big herds of sheep. But that was always in the spring time. Never saw shepherds working in winter. Probably because real shepherds didn't need to fulfill some obscure ancient prophecy, and also because they had common sense.
This was northern Egypt, the Nile Delta, and it gets damn cold there in winter. The whole Delta is crossed by irrigation canals and the Mediterranean isn't far away. All that water makes for some very cold, foggy mornings and evenings.
