The Stupid - it burns!

From the Friendly Atheist:

Jerusalem Residents Face Thorny Issue: When the Messiah Returns, Where Will They Live?
February 13, 2014 By Terry Firma Leave a Comment

When the Jewish mashiach (messiah) finally returns, guess who won’t be overjoyed to see him?

Renters in Jersualem, who fear they will be will be kicked out of their apartments.

"The whole religious complexion of the modern world is due to the absence from Jerusalem of a lunatic asylum."

For some fun reading, Google "Jerusalem Syndrome."

That Paine quote is all over the web. But I couldn't find a single source/citation/reference for it. Everybody just attributes it to Paine. Hmmm...that's usually a bad sign.

It sounds like something from "The Age of Reason," where he generally gave religion a good whacking. But I found many attributed quotes from that book. Just not that one.

When I posted earlier today, I just saw the many uses of it on the Web and just grabbed it. I noticed Positive Atheism's big collection of Paine quotes did not include it.

Curiouser and curiouser. I may look a little harder later, but right now that pizza's not going to eat itself...

if he wants to sign, I can give him my landlord's number. Nice row-house, 4bd, tiny back yard. Perfect for the newly-returned son of god. The garbage disposal is a little wonky, but really, is that even a necessary appliance?

I thought I had the answer......but some had already figured it out.

Tikvah Blaukopf Schein was told she and her husband would have to vacate their apartment in a week if the Messiah arrived when they moved in last August. A difficult negotiation ensued when she decided to take the clause seriously and wasn’t about to let them get evicted. ”I said, ‘That’s not nice behavior,’” Ms. Schein says. “Where would we go? What would we do?”

And apparently there are complications that I never imagined.

Oy!

I mean, what does it take to make rational people realize that the religion virus has completely hijacked their brains?

Who rules with power instilling fear in all disbelievers,

descends from the clouds of heaven in glory....

then wants their apartment.

Perfectly reasonable.
