(49,533 posts)They just hate certain people, and they're alert-bombing in order to get them 5 hides and a silencing on DU.
I must have missed the actual precipitating event. What happened? I'm the last one to know.

(112,833 posts)I might have to steal it and Photoshop it.
Basically, some weakling was trolling A&A and found a graphic s/he thought violated the DU rules. It didn't but a bunch of cranky and thin skinned jurors happened to be available at the time and the post was hidden.
Personally, I feel there needs to be an appeals process that would go through the mods since they are the most familiar with board rules. Juries can be overturned in the legal system when they're found to be biased against an innocent defendant and religious trollers in a protected A&A group should similarly have their verdicts overturned.
Again, this forum exists so that we can discuss things that the pious find unpalatable or downright offensive. I would suggest that the most sensitive and easily offended souls keep the hell out of here. This isn't your group.

(19,288 posts)Or in ATA? Wonder if Admin would ever create an appeals process. This has been an eternal debate and one with lots of friction. Fairness and justice are more than just principles. People get really upset when outcomes are unfair. Most of us don't mind when what happens is deserved and we will accept being punished.
Being punished unfairly breeds resentment. It is difficult to bear. I hope the game playing will be discouraged from over there. Respect for others beliefs or lack thereof seems like a progressive value.

(49,533 posts)But Skinner's position on juries has ALWAYS been "you take your chances."
I suppose so. We take our chances.

(18,312 posts)as he has stated from day one and numerous times since in ATA, "you takes your chances" when you post, and that it really isn't a big deal to have one post hidden if a jury got it wrong, and it's not that hard to follow the rules etc.
Also, others have brought up in ATA allowing only subscribers to a safe haven to be the ones to serve on the jury for a safe haven and he has repeatedly said no, that will never happen, that community standards are community standards regardless of what group or forum a post is in, you takes your chances, it isn't really a big deal if you get a post hidden if a jury got it wrong, it's not that hard to follow the rules, etc.
I would recommend that all posters, when they make a post here, copy and paste the following to the bottom of their post (not sig lines because I don't know that those show up when you're called to jury a post):
I AM POSTING THIS IN A SAFE HAVEN FORUM FOR ATHEISTS AND AGNOSTICS. PLEASE CONSIDER THIS WHEN JUDGING WHETHER MY POST IS APPROPRIATE, AS THE INTENDED AUDIENCE IS FOR ATHEISTS AGNOSTICS AND THOSE WHO SYMPATHIZE WITH THEIR PLIGHT.

Also remember him pointing out (probably on QI) that it isn't really possible to give offence. A person chooses to be offended. It is the offendee that chooses to be offended.
