No, really.

The notion that we are somehow so special and extraordinary in the universe is a demonstration of the overestimation of self importance.
I'm okay with not having all the answers and letting science figure it out instead of making things fit my world view by skewing the science and just making shit up.

(9,035 posts)they have perfected the hoax and now millions rely on the fantasy.

(5,043 posts)And dangerous. I feel this rebranding by using certain scientific theories is like cable branding Fox an actual journalistic unbiased news source because it has a program format that may look like actual news for those that don't like to take the time to fact check. Grr.

(17,505 posts)To juxtapose real physicists with dumbfuck religionists as if the scientists are all confused and the religionists are actually on to something is totally, and deliberately, disingenuous.
How do they know life is extremely rare...in the universe? It is in our solar system, but the universe? The same is true for us being in a "goldilocks zone" for life....in our solar system, but no the universe. Do the god-ites not know the difference between the two?

(5,043 posts)As scientific breakthroughs have been discovered faster in the last 50 years, they have had to "re-package" the dogma and plagerize actual science in order to keep their followers from asking hard questions. If one starts to ask questions and delves backwards those tightly held rituals and mythologies don't stand the rigors of science.
"A theory as used in science, is an explanation or model based on observation, experimentation, and reasoning, especially one that has been tested and confirmed as a general principle helping to explain and predict natural phenomena."

(33,982 posts)No idea yet if they have life, but the prerequisites are accounted for even with our limited peering into the night sky.

I like a quote from Carl Sagan about this. IIRC - "The universe appears to be neither benign or hostile. Only indifferent."
A quote guaranteed to drive the Special Snowflakes even crazier.
There's an old Southern joke about this:
Jasper gets up one morning, and like every day, heads out to the cotton field with his pickin' sack.
He's out in the field picking cotton when he looks up in the sky and sees A SIGN FROM GAWD!
So Jasper runs off to the parsonage. "Preacher! Preacher! Miracle! I just saw A SIGN FROM GAWD! I saw a message in the clouds! The clouds spelt out the letters 'G-P-C.' So I figured it must mean "Go Preach Christ." I'm gonna be a preacher just like you!"
The preacher thought about this miracle for a minute and said: "Jasper, I'm afraid you have misinterpreted God's message. In your case, the letters 'G-P-C' obviously mean "Go Pick Cotton."

(25,348 posts)It's like they took 200 hours of scientific thought and edited it down to "God-is-great-and-wise-and-even-the-great-minds-agree-with-us."

(13,485 posts)Jesus loves me this I know
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to him belong
They are weak but he is strong.
...join in and sing with me....
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
The Bible tells me so.
--- How about this all time favorite....
Jesus loves the little children,
All the children of the world,
Red and Yellow, Black and White
They are precious in his sight
Jesus loves the little children of the World.
And yes boys and girls, you ARE special in the sight of God and Jesus his son, his only son DIED ON A ROMAN INSTRUMENT OF TORTURE AND DEATH
for you and me so we don't have to go to hell and burn for a trillion years hotter than a thousand suns like all the non-believers.
Remember children... repeat, repeat, repeat.... so you'll believe, believe, believe!
(sorry, I just had a moment of gastrointestinal religion for a moment.)
