Child pornography uncovered in Vatican last year

The Vatican, which is still struggling with the effects of a worldwide paedophilia scandal in the Catholic Church, discovered two cases of possession of child pornography within its own walls last year, its chief prosecutor said on Saturday.

The Catholic Church has been hit by scandal involving the sexual abuse of children by priests around the world in the past 15 years.
Pope Francis has vowed zero tolerance for offenders but victims of abuse want him to do more and make bishops who allegedly covered up the abuse accountable.

In his report, Milano said Vatican police had investigated "two delicate cases, of varying degrees of seriousness, of possession of child pornography material" by people living or working inside the city-state, which is the headquarters of the 1.2 billion member Church.

The prosecutor gave no details but a Vatican spokesman said one of them involved Jozef Wesolowski, a former archbishop who was arrested last September in the Vatican on charges of having paid for sex with children while he was a papal ambassador in the Dominican Republic..

Things that are truly revolting, but hey! Dawkins is on Twitter!

The warnings are right there in their book.

What warnings? In a different time in a different culture Abraham and Sarah will be considered deviant.

"Honor thy father and mother" covers this.

Meaning, "This is just between you and me, OK?"

The only commandment directed specifically at children tells them to shut up and accept whatever. This is truly evil.

it's to keep it from fading away, reminding folks that the Catholic church works hard to cover up many crimes of it's priesthood, and I hope that seeing a couple getting tossed out as a sacrifice doesn't ease any of the pressure from them to be brought to justice.

Some people looks at atheists saying how they feel religion is a bad things that should be removed and say it makes them upset. Me? I look at priests using their power and knowing that they will be protected to the very top of their church to prey on children and I want to burn the place down (figuratively speaking, the Vatican is a beautiful place I want nothing to happen to... it's inhabitants however...)

that sickening shit like this gets brought to light continually.

Guess I was just showing my cynicism above--sorry. The tragic reality that such accounts seem to create barely a ripple in the media really depresses me. How many instances of child abuse by the RCC can be disregarded in exchange for stories of Frank reassuring a little kid that his dead dog is in doggie heaven, or of meeting with a transgender individual who is assuredly bound for hell?

As for the Vatican power structure generally, they're sick, evil fucks, the lot of them.

Just sometimes I try to break out of it and just remind myself that it's actually not normal, it's a beastly disgusting thing they do, and I shouldn't just roll my eyes. Plus it's been a while sines there was a headline about this thing that should have a grand jury on it.

So lay off. Not all believers possess child pornography, so what's your point?

while hundreds (thousands? who knows?) of others have gotten away with it. Do they expect us to be satisfied that two individuals are being punished?

But I am surprised that they released even this much information.
