When you get wisdom, you get shame. That's the point.

2. It's possible that the shame for Adam and Eve wasn't simply being naked.

Who's to say they didn't have some pretty nasty skin issues? Nowhere in Genesis does it say that they were in perfect health and you have to figure that two naked morons aren't exactly going to make the best decisions regarding hygiene and what not to rub all over.

There are the three named sons: Cain, Abel, and Seth and Genesis says that Adam and Eve had "sons and daughters" during the 800 years following birth of Seth. Since Cain had a wife, that means he must have married his sister and when he lamented his punishment, he talked about people being everywhere, so the question becomes how many children did Adam and Eve have prior to Cain, between Cain and Abel, and during the Cain and Abel story. It's also possible that Seth is just the son they had after Abel was killed.

6. Well, I only remembered the two boys and knew that Cain killed Abel.

And I always saw that as a huge flaw in the story. When I was in private school, we had to read the Bible for required religion classes, but I guess I didn't do such a good job of it. My roommate and I'd take turns reading it aloud to each other, since we were both stuck in the same class, but I know that I'd often zone out, remember that she'd switch to French to find out if I was paying attention and I wouldn't notice...

Thanks so much for the background. It's said that Atheists know more about religion that believers, but I must have repressed it...

I vaguely remembered something about a 'replacement son' for Abel and various things I was taught years ago so I went over to the bookcase and re-read the relevant part.
