Favor to ask for star members.

I need 10 people with a star membership to agree to support a new Group that is a safe have under a general religion umbrella.

You can see my discussion in Religion about it starting here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/121829655#post66

If you would just indicate that you are willing to support it on this thread, I would appreciate it. Doesn't mean you have to go there, but that you agree it should be a forum.

Thanks.

why another safe haven group is needed here. Who wants such a group and has been excluded or made to feel unwelcome in Liberal Christians and Progressive People of Faith?

People who whine about the atmosphere in the Religion group have been directed there (and elsewhere) many times, and it still gets very little traffic. What makes anyone think that a new group will see more?

I just want the complaining about it to stop. Many people say that this forum needs to happen and would make DU a better place. I think it would be the same haven of no action that the other religious safe havens are, but the only way to show that is to get it.

Plus, having 10 people from this forum being the ones to support it would be, somehow, interesting (I'll go with that word).

But will the powers that be who make the final decision about starting a new group be satisfied with that motive? Will they want to start a new Group for people who don't want it badly enough to make the effort themselves?

One of them (don't remember who) had a point about us fucking up their innocent discussions. I guess I can see it would be irritating for christians to be talking about their favorite christmas stories and have a dirty atheist come in and point out how stupid they were for stealing a pagan holiday and making it all about jesus who wasn't even born in the winter anyway...

Perhaps the liberal christian group should be renamed - it does look to me like "Liberal christians and all you less important religions" group. (I do NOT believe it was meant that way to offend less important religions but it can be seen that way)(And by "less important religions" I mean that they are all unimportant to me but Christianity is the majority by far so yeah they get to most ink but maybe it shouldn't be that way)

But either way it gets done, Goblinmonger is 100% right in that it will be nice to not hear "why do theeeeeeyyyyyy get a safe haven and weeeeee dooooooon't?...." all the time.

I would also petition for a pinned thread in the Religion group pointing folks to the new forum and the already existing "Progressive Christians" forum. If no one posts there, it's worse than no group, I think.

That's the reason for the self-delete below. I agreed to endorse this, then realized my star was gone!

Where'd my star go? I think some Persian woo-woos stole it and hung it over a stable in Bethlehem or something.

Hmmm myself. Will have to fix that star-free condition.

I know how much I love the safe haven of the Atheist group, why shouldn't believers have the same? Perhaps then it will be less tempting to try to slip into the AA forum and do some stealth soul saving (which we all recognize and find annoying).

Lots of reasons I think this is a good idea.

Unless I'm reading the group's description wrong, isn't the "Liberal Christians & Progressive People of Faith" group a safe haven group? It seems as if the "Progressive People of Faith" part of the name would cover a pretty wide range of people, too.

I understand you're stepping up because the believers who complain about there being no such group seem to prefer to complain about its absence rather than taking the necessary steps to start one. I'm in favor of the idea, don't get me wrong, I just find it odd that there are people acting as if such a group doesn't already exist.

Edited to add: if it gets people to stop complaining, then I'm all for it. And yes, I realize I don't have a star anymore. (It expired last month.)

Believers who are supposedly interested in getting liberal atheists on board with religious liberals can't even agree among themselves about which believers belong in an already-existing (what's supposed to be) "umbrella" group? I wish I could say I'm surprised, but....

Edit: Left out a word. Oopsie!
