(146,338 posts)A negative response to a thing still relates to that thing. I can't figure where else the atheism group would go, to tell the truth.

(1,736 posts)the same way the Skepticism Group is listed.

(27,383 posts)"Science and Skepticism" was changed to "Science and Technology", even though there aren't any tech-specific groups under that heading. If Skepticism were added back into the category listing, this group would fit there just fine.
It doesn't bother me to leave it here, but I imagine our religious friends may not like it much, either. And, really, we're not religious, so being in the Religion category is sorta weird.
Although, perhaps the "Technology" label might begin to spawn actual Technology posts . . .

(16,230 posts)What's wrong with leaving it there?
On Edit: Oh, I see that's gone. Why was it removed? Maybe it should have been left. I think this and "Skepticism, Science & Pseudoscience" both belong under "Science & Skepticism", or maybe a new category called something like "Skepticism" or maybe "Critical thinking" or some such.

(22,298 posts)let him know where you want it to be. This was originally somewhere else (like Science or something) but someone complained about that too.

(111,383 posts)since this should have been kept as part of Science & Skepticism since the Skeptics' group is still there.
In fact, this whole thing makes me feel like they moved my food dish.

(4,261 posts)Unknowing the gambol in the fields while we sharpen our knives. On a serious note I'm a little confused by putting us with religion but, I have no great objections except that others (newbies) might not know where to find us now.

(6,452 posts)It seems weird, but atheism/agnosticism is at least tangentially related to religion.
Atheism is a religion. We've been told so by religious people.

(166 posts)but atheism is not a religion. It's not. When I think of all the time I've spent trying to explain this simple concept to people (some family members included) this just sticks in my craw.
1) Absent belief in god
2) Absent belief in religion
3) Absent belief in after-life
4) Absent belief in souls
So explain to me again how I'm religious again? And again. And again.
Do you teach creationism in a science class? No.
Would the catholic church teach atheism? Not bloody likely.
I like the science and skepticism idea.

(16,230 posts)I lean towards being against this categorization, but the idea of putting it where people would look for it has some merit.
The whole point of categorizing is to make things easier to find, so maybe it does make sense to put it here.
On the other hand, it does play into the misconception that atheism is a religion; sort of like putting a "Bald" group under a "Hair Colors" category.

(22,990 posts)But I'd guess if people were presented with a list of the Main Topics here and had to infer which one held Atheists & Agnostics, most would choose door number "Religion & Spirituality."
I'm not inclined to move it, personally.

(13,081 posts)If there were a forum for those who believed in Santa and one specifically for those who do not believe in Santa (the a-Santas and ag-Santas group), it would probably make sense to put them both in a similar folder.
And all the groups -- including the ones that believe in various Santas -- need to be easily located for all DU members.
And for the record, I have way more reason to believe in Santa than I do in Jesus. He's got way more than one book about him, I first learned about him at a similar age, I know exactly what it's like to feel Santa's love (or displeasure) in my heart, and most importantly Santa has actually given me things. Jesus never brought me a Death Star playset.
