Why is Bill Gates the bogeyman?

1. Gates wants to improve the US Education system..

But his views, choices and suggestions are anathema to the US Teacher's unions. Of which many Democrats are enormous supporters.

2. I agree with the teachers here...

It may well be that the current American education system is not the best; but 'market-driven' reforms; constant testing and threatening of teachers; treating schools as businesses, etc. have had a very bad effect on education here in the UK, and no doubt elsewhere.

I doubt that Bill Gates is the root cause, however. This has been going on for a long time.

3. Not teachers unions, just teachers

Many of whom happen to belong to professional organizations, of which unions are a part.

Bill Gates, I honestly believe, is well intentioned. However, there's a reason that random middle school English teachers don't get to run multi billion dollar tech companies, and vice versa. Bill Gates doesn't actually know much about American education, what is wrong with it, or how to fix it.
