What an embarrassment for CNN. Communication from the great beyond, dear oh dear. Interesting from the point of view of psychology, sure, but that's now how this is presented.

1. There has to be a lot of continuing trauma & guilt among those who lost someone over weeks alone

when they were not allowed to be with them. It can't be surprising that many imagine all kinds of connections that help them absolve guilt and grief. Hardly seems unusual, really, and might well be healing.

2. I'm not big on religiosity, but I do accept spirit reality. Religions limit spiritual growth by

imposing limitations on what one can believe and invalidate experiences that don't conform to their dictates. Still, it all comes down to what one's Mind can accept.
