I had my first post hidden today on DU3.

Apparently, the "natural medicine" crowd thinks it's "misleading" to call it "natural medicine" when the source of said medicine is an illegally obtained human penis.

"Poster equates human castration with naturopathic medicine, unconnected to the article, which is about a crazy man cutting someone's dick off."

Sigh.

I really wish the woo-woos would keep a more open mind.

Crazy man cutting someone's dick off.... crazy man cutting a rhinoceros's horn off... crazy man diluting something past the point where it doesn't exist anymore... I don't see the difference.

But, apparently they found a jury that does.

AUTOMATED MESSAGE: One of your posts has been hidden by a DU Jury

Mail Message
At Sat Apr 14, 2012, 10:53 AM, an alert was sent on the following post:

Police arrest man selling naturopathic medicine

REASON FOR ALERT:

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate. (See Community Standards.)

ALERTER'S COMMENTS:

Poster equates human castration with naturopathic medicine, unconnected to the article, which is about a crazy man cutting someone's dick off.

JURY RESULTS

A randomly-selected Jury of DU members completed their review of this alert at Sat Apr 14, 2012, 11:03 AM, and voted 4-2 to HIDE IT.

Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT and said: Flame bait. Ian why be an unsevered dick?
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Giving the OP the benefit of the doubt.
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT and said: I was genuinely conflicted about what to do here. I went with 'hide it' on the grounds that it is not appropriate for the Health forum. Belongs in the Lounge, maybe with a 'weird news' tag or something.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Gack. And also, GACK. The low-voltage headline is appropriate, and the content disgusting. But not deserving of censorship.
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given

2. Thanks, I thought so too. Now, I have to behave myself for at least 90 days.

Especially if I have any hopes of getting back on the MIRT Team again.

Woo-woos have no sense of humor... or irony... or reality.

Although, to be fair, it could have been a fellow skeptic with a stick up his butt that alerted on it, but I doubt it.

I had three posts hidden in the first couple weeks of DU3:

-The first for asking someone of they were being deliberately obtuse.
-The second for quoting the snarky punchline from an xkcd.
-The third for suggesting an organized protest.

I've served on a dozen or so juries and I have never voted to hide a post, but I'm not sure how I would have voted on this one.

I share your opinion of naturopathy, but it's hard to deny that your headline was rather misleading. He was presumably arrested for depriving the victim of his John Thomas rather than the selling of it as medicine.

I guess random DUers aren't familiar with this particular group. Either that, or the word "penis" scares them. I'm never sure.

became acceptable for TV nooz people to use. There was a rash (no pun intended) of penis stories for a short time. I can't remember what story it was that opened the door and let the TV nooz folks say "penis," though. It was either the speculation about the curvature of Clinton's member or some angry woman's penis removal story. I just remember all those nooz folks saying it a lot for a while.
