Earth farthest from the sun tomorrow

Planet Earth reaches a milestone this weekend, as it swings out to aphelion, its most distant point from the sun. It happens on July 4, 2020 at 11:35 UTC. That's 6:35 a.m. Central Daylight Time in the U.S. Is it hot outside for you on your part of Earth right now? Or cold out? Earth's aphelion comes in the midst of Northern Hemisphere summer and Southern Hemisphere winter. That should tell you that our distance from the sun doesn't cause the seasons. A quick Googling shows me I was wrong.

As nouns the difference between apogee and aphelion
is that apogee is (astronomy) the point, in an orbit about the earth, that is furthest from the earth: the apoapsis of an earth orbiter while aphelion is (astronomy) the point in the elliptical orbit of a planet, comet, etc, where it is farthest from the sun
