Severe thunderstorm outbreak, including possible tornadoes, to threaten South this week.

A large area from Texas to the Carolinas could see severe storms.

'A significant and widespread severe weather outbreak is set to slam parts of the southern and southeastern United States this week, with the greatest threats occurring on Wednesday and Thursday. Strong to severe thunderstorms with damaging winds, large hail and tornadoes are expected in what looks to be the first widespread severe weather episode of the spring.

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has already hoisted a level 3 out of 5 “enhanced risk” of severe weather for parts of Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee on Wednesday, in an indication of the growing concern for a high-impact event.

Parts of the Southeast from the Virginia Tidewater to the Florida Panhandle could see additional dangerous thunderstorms on Thursday.

It’s the start of a longer-term weather pattern that appears primed for a dramatic uptick in severe conditions, with the likelihood of an active or even unusually active tornado season.'>>>
