it has unleashed wind gusts to 70 mph in the Dakotas, snow in Denver, and will bring freezing temperatures to the East Coast by Thursday and Friday....
Potent cold front crashes east across U.S., with plunging temperatures, wind and snow for some
Winds up to 70 mph accompanied the dramatic frontal passage in Rapid City, S.D.
The temperature hit 70 degrees just before 11 a.m. in Rapid City, S.D., on Monday, with a warm westerly breeze and clear skies. Ten minutes later, the mercury had fallen 18 degrees, with 60 mph northwesterly wind gusts and smoke reducing visibilities.
It signaled the passage of a strong cold front, which has been packing a punch in the form of strong winds and fire weather concerns for many across the Northern Tier and central United States.
That same front is surging east, set to briefly quell the stretch of springtime weather that millions in the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast have been enjoying, while providing a solid dose of rainfall or snow for some.
