Good morning. Do you have a clear sky?

You should be able to see Mercury this morning. I saw it about forty minutes ago, from central Alexandria, Virginia.

If you have a clear sky, and if you have an unobstructed view to the east down to the horizon, you should be able to see Mercury.

Venus is unmistakable in the eastern sky. Follow its trajectory back to where it first appeared on the horizon. Just above the horizon, look for a yellowish white dot. That’s Mercury. It’s not a star; stars are bluish white.

It’s possible to see Mercury during only about two or three stretches per year. We're in one of them.

We have clouds for a few days so I anticipate a whole bunch of cool cosmic stuff to happen during this time. And once in a while I get to see unbelievably cool stuff because I have no light pollution.

Tipped off to the rise time of Mars, I went looking for that. It's farther south than I would have guessed. I saw Venus, Mars, and Mercury. This is about as good a sighting of Mercury as you will ever get.
