My Dad ... 1923-2022. (edit)

My dad passed away last nite in his sleep.
He got covid again on the 12th ...(I think it was his 4th infection)
his health directives were no intubation, no hospital, DNR ... his last several days were on morphine for pain and lorazepam for anxiety. He was allowed to slip the binds of this life in peace. He would have been 99 in September...

I will be stepping away for a bit, checking in occasionally…

I’ve come back to edit in this pic of my Dad … I’ve always called it ‘The Barefoot Sailor’ it’s sentimental to me as it’s one that my Dad sent my Mom before he shipped out in WWII, to the Philippines …
They met when he was working in the Charleston SC shipyard, became engaged before he shipped out.
On the back she had written several sentences, but it was glued into an album, and when removed 6 black felt dots from where it was glued to the page remain.

What I can read : “… San Diego … and he … wear shoes … wasn’t that an …
I think this is the cutest picture of him yet … and all”



And he came back, they married and thus my sibs and I.

I want to thank you all for the warm wishes and heartfelt messages, and am humbled by your thoughtful words … I do love my DU family !

My Dad passed last October at 92 and thankfully he too left us with no pain under hospice care for liver cancer. He chose quality over quantity by refusing cancer treatment for his late stage liver cancer and left us on his own terms after, per him, 92 great years. Hope you find some comfort in your Dad’s leaving on his own terms.

My father also served with the US Navy in the South Pacific during WWII.

Your dad has likely been welcomed by many of his buddies, along with those of his loved ones who preceded him.
