I'm by myself this morning. I've had my coffee.
I'm baking cookies for my neighbors and ziti for a classmate who just lost his wife three days ago.
I don't need anything else.
Enjoy your day.

(18,887 posts)A friend hosts Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner for all us singles or couples. Christmas dinner is Italian themed this year. He's supplying hot Italian sausage and everybody is bring sides. I'm making vegetable risotto for the first time. Keeping my fingers crossed it turns out well.

(55,371 posts)1. Keep the liquid/broth at a low boil.
2. Ladle in 1/2 cup of hot liquid/broth at a time and stir until totally incorporated before adding a new 1/2 cup.
3. This is labor intensive insofar as you can't walk away from the stove. Be prepared to stir 20-30 minutes.
4. Buon'appetito!

(1,260 posts)My first Christmas as an empty nester! My kids are with the families of their significant others....we celebrated all day yesterday with great food and thoughtful gifts. I'm planning to read and relax! (and probably eat those delicious leftovers!)

(9,281 posts)It's lovely that you are baking for others. Must be very rough for that classmate.
And hey, if you've got DU, you're never alone.

She and Joe were together since 1969 (sixth grade), so this has to be tough on him.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
