Can the Holidays please be done now?

I f***ing HATE all the crap at my job related to the holidays ... having to buy gifts for people you barely know and definitely don't like, having to go to luncheons and pitch-in's and defend your 'lack of holiday planning' and disinterest in all the bs to everyone ... if I had the time and money I'd take the last 2 weeks of December off and go hiking somewhere every year.

I'm with you all the way.

I participate, because there's no un-rude way out of it.

But if I didn't have to, I'd never miss it.

I would also love to just bail for a couple weeks until the whole thing blows over.

I end up penniless.

In my country the holidays is a time to buy for CHILDREN ONLY, not an exchange of gifts between adults.

My bank account suffers because I'm forced to exchange gifts with other adults. I'd be fine with people saying, "hey, let's skip that, since it's basically like me going out to buy myself something I don't need."

that the only gifts would be for the two grandbabies, and i'm sticking to it! my oldest son is the only one who is trying to guilt-trip me, but i'm not buying it!

when everyone else is doing the Holiday thing indoors. For example, it's a great time to be out on a road bike. The streets are empty, and you have the trails to yourself. Of course I live where it's warm. But I've enjoyed a movie or two when the theatres are empty. I LIKE that.

But job related? That's crap. A former employer once made us stand around and sing Xmas songs. Sorry, I'm not religious. And those gift exchanges limited to less than $10.00, why do they do that? Everyone buys some junk at the Dollar Store.

And taking the time off to hike somewhere sounds great. What a relief.

Luckily, I'm semi retired so I don't have the office politics to deal with. But when I could, I would always opt out of the gift exchanges. I never understood that behavior. Some office holiday stuff is especially obnoxious. Like choice of holiday music to play in the office. Some people just don't think. They bring in a cheap child's turntable and insist on playing 45s of 1950's country/western christmas 'hits' (this happened back in the 80's). My REVENGE was to go discount dumpster diving for every bad Christmas cassette tape I could find, watch their reactions to the tapes when I brought them in and insist on playing the one they all hated. Elvis' Christmas album won. And they got the message. Soon, it was nothing but the most classical music always at a low volume.

Well, now it's Xmas Eve, and I've had enough. There's a dinner tonight with just close friends, but a bigger party tomorrow will probably get skipped. I'm holidayed out.

that not only am I a loner (with excellent social skills), but like the others, I hate all of the silliness and the potlucks and office parties, etc. I do NOT do gift exchanges, even if people think I am a Scrooge. I would rather make a donation to a food bank, etc. I despise the rampant consumerism (witness the pepper-spraying and other violence). I have no kids, anfd the rest of my family agreed to do away with all of that nonsense.

I enjoy a good emal and good wine with my family, or I am happy to spend the holiday alone, as I did this past weekend.

I think there are a lot of us out there, but many bow to societal pressures.

Everyone enjoy the rest of your holiday!
