Laser man pleads guilty, agrees to repay $17 million
A Rapid City man who ran an illegal medical-laser scheme has agreed to plead guilty to a reduced list of criminal charges and repay at least $16.67 million to customers, in exchange for prosecutors dropping charges against his longtime live-in girlfriend.
Larry Lytle had been scheduled for trial next week on charges of mail fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy, contempt and obstruction of government proceedings, resulting from his violation of court orders in 2015 that required him to stop making and selling his handheld QLaser devices.
According to a plea agreement filed Tuesday with the U.S. District Court in Rapid City, Lytle has agreed to plead guilty to criminal contempt and conspiracy to introduce misbranded medical devices into interstate commerce with the intent to defraud and mislead. The other charges will be dismissed, as will the charges against Lytle’s girlfriend, Fredretta Eason.
Two other accomplices in the conspiracy have already pleaded guilty. They and Lytle are now awaiting sentencing.
