J-Pop Summit offers Japanese extravaganza

The American craze for Japanese pop culture — from manga and anime to J-pop music — has only intensified over the years.

That’s why the 2017 J-Pop Summit, San Francisco’s ninth annual celebration of Japanese pop culture at Fort Mason Center on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 9-10, is expected to attract more than 20,000 people for one of the largest events of its type in the world.

This year’s theme focuses on “arts, eats and innovations,” with concerts, a comprehensive Japanese tech showcase, ramen and sake summits, as well as a travel pavilion that includes a “Japan Immersion” virtual reality experience.

Performing artists include the all-female rock band Band-Maid, pop group Babyraids Japan and popular anime song performer May’n.
