Empress Ki, 기황후; 奇皇后, Kdrama

Korean historical drama from 2014 about a Korean woman who rises to power in China. Very romanticized, fictionalized, visually spectacular, with an engaging story line. It looks like ondemandkorea has the US license and English subtitles. I couldn't watch anything there for long without relenting and paying their fee. I think Netflix has it, it used to anyway. There were several trailers to choose from on youtube, I picked the scenes with Tal Tal as some of the most dramatic.

The series revolves around Gi Seungnyang, a Goryeo-born woman who ascends to power despite the restrictions of the era's class system, and later marries Toghon Temür (Emperor of Mongol Empire) to become an empress of the Chinese Yuan dynasty, instead of her first love, Wang Yu. It managed to highlight the deep love the Emperor embedded in Lady Ki and depicts her loves and political ambitions.[3]

I'm guessing this is a CGI of the Yuan palace in 14th Century Beijing.



It's pretty impressive. One of the principal characters is Toghon Temür (Mongolian: Тогоонтөмөр, Togoontömör; 25 May 1320 – 23 May 1370), also known by the temple name Emperor Huizong (Chinese: 惠宗 ). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toghon_Tem%C3%BCr

He is portrayed as a weak and hapless victim in these episodes while he is in exile in Korea. The scene eventually shifts from Koryo to China.
