'Festival 축제 Chukje 祝祭' (1996)
Chukje is Dr. Petersen's number 2 pick for all time best Korean movie. The movie is about a traditional funeral in a small town in South Korea. The old traditions of a funeral for the matriarch of the family are depicted in the film, from the point of view of a novelist who is narrating the story. It's a great depiction of South Korean society and customs at the time, exploring attitudes and prejudices in the extended family and community. The video is available on youtube without a paywall. The full length video has English subtitles.
