Ha Long Bay - the world famous natural wonder of Vietnam, with more than a thousand karst/limestone islands. UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Take a break. Been watching a two hour plus documentary on contemporary Vietnam produced for South Korean audiences and learned of this extraordinary place. I found this older 10 min video about Halong to share.

5. hopefully not too distant future

Vietnam is really great for a visit. Lots of places to see, but that means making choices. If you have a month, you could hit the high spots. Less than a month and you would have to budget your time carefully. I go back almost every year, had to cancel this year. One of the best values as a travel destination. Great food, great people, easy to get around.

3. At one point in my life...

I had a huge crush on a Vietnamese woman.... but she was straight, so we just became friends. I still hear from her from time to time.

4. truly a beautiful spot

among the many delightful places in Vietnam. it has become quite crowded with tour boats in recent years, and i am guessing the industry is suffering during this pandemic, as are we here in Hawaii. tourism related businesses are struggling everywhere.
