Oma Arirang - Song Ga-in 송가인 - 엄마 아리랑

I was looking through a youtube playlist of "newer" trot music that TK of Ask a Korean recommended on twitter. Found this very characteristic traditional Korean voice (pansori) in Song Ga-in's recording of Oma Arirang. I translated the lyrics below.

TK also had a twitter thread on the relationship among trot, western music and Japanese "yona nuki scale." Music theory is over my head, but I will put the link below under the lyrics because it places trot as early modern Korean popular music in historical context. TK writes often about Kpop on his thread as well.(i confess i don't follow Kpop). He seems to be an expert on it.

glad you like them. I think having had the opportunity to be stationed in Korea so long ago, and then share in the Korean culture with the Korean American community here in the US, is the most rewarding experience i could have imagined.
