PRESS RELEASE
Bernie Sanders Plan to Pay for Economic Agenda to Rebuild the Middle Class
JANUARY 13, 2016
WASHINGTON Michael Briggs, a spokesman for Bernie Sanders, issued the following statement on Wednesday in response to Clintons attack on Sanders health care plan:
Every proposal Senator Sanders has introduced in this campaign has been paid for. We hope the Clinton campaign will stop engaging in false and misleading attacks and instead provide similar clarity on how their proposals will actually be paid for.

(37,651 posts)savings to pay for it..
single payer health care will save taxpayers about $500 billion per year even including the initial costs to train more doctors and nurses. Canada and the other 19 wealthiest countries pay about 60% as much on health as we do, for care that is always free at the point of service, and that results in an extra three years of lifespan.

(37,651 posts)With $570 billion in savings on administration and monopoly profits, a single-payer system would reduce dramatically the burden of health care costs on the United States economy. Over time, furthermore, a single-payer system would allow us to slow the growth in health-care spending.

(53,397 posts)My employer self funds (State of NC) and claims to spend around 5800 a year. Under the funding schemes I have scene I would face an increase in my taxes of around 9% or about 4500. Indeed that is 1300 to the good but that is only if the state gives me that money which they most assuredly won't.

(53,397 posts)and it should be noted that medicare hasn't resulted in less expensive care for the elderly even in the parts of the medical field in which it has become single payer. The fact is the reductions only occur via negotiation. But that said, there will be winners and losers. No matter who much less my medical care costs, the state (my employer) will reap the benefits but I (via a 9% payroll tax) will reap the costs. It will cost me money. He should be honest about that.

(37,651 posts)elect people that do not take money from Insurance and big Pharma to get elected. That is pretty much my reason to support those that don't, in the first place.

(93,532 posts).. his oppoents position or query and then arguing against it.
In this case he's injecting his economic agenda into his opponents position and when she's talking about his health plan and how he's going to pay for single payer other than "savings" from going to single payer.
Sanders the "non politician" is cutting and running from this by proffering a non answer
