2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumClinton is criticizing Bernie's implementation of single payer, which is state based. At some point
if she's losing enough she might pull out a single payer proposal that is federal based.

(48,181 posts)It would raise taxes!
I would have to wait with people who are beneath me for a non emergency appointment.
I currently get absolutely 100% free healthcare from my employer, like lots of other people I know, so this would suck!
And other current rightwing talking points being deployed right here right now.

Nor do I see anyone on DU saying Single Payer is the Government take-over of Medicine!1!!11
13/14 million dollar figure yes. Which I agree is disturbing. It is easy to refute though.
I will also note that a handful of Sanders supporters cite claims from Murdoch's WSJ uncritically as well.
Lastly, I agree with you that hyperbole is a ton of fun, but c'mon:
"I would have to wait with people who are beneath me for a non emergency appointment."
Link?
"I currently get absolutely 100% free healthcare from my employer, like lots of other people I know, so this would suck!"

If you've got 'em, I'll go push back.

(48,181 posts)But you knew that.
Apparently lots of people pay almost nothing for employer based health care.
And repeated here:
Most full time workers have insurance paid for by their employers
The complaint that all these new (and poor) people will flood the system, which as far as I am concerned is thinly veiled racism, is also all over DU.

So yeah, of course I know it; that's why I posted the above quote in my initial reply.

I've reviewed the links you sent me. I stand by my assertion that these characterizations of yours are come from your big fat OTT hyperbole machine:
"I would have to wait with people who are beneath me for a non emergency appointment."

That is a big issue. We simply don't have enough primary care doctors to go around and we need to
start at the medical school level in encouraging more doctors to go in that direction.
Sorry Warren, the output of your big ole fat hyperbole machine, and some severe twisting of words added in doesn't make a call for more primary-care physicians "thinly veiled racism"
"I currently get absolutely 100% free healthcare from my employer, like lots of other people I know, so this would suck!"

3. they did no such thing
one it is an average figure, two it was a range. People like me, and there are more than a few of us, whose employers pay the lions share of our premiums will see virtually no savings but a massive tax increase, which he is unwilling to spell out before we vote. My employer will pocket any savings (use them to give tax cuts to the rich).
So a poster says his employer pays the "lion's share" and you use your big 'ole fat hyperbole machine to claim he said he "get absolutely 100% free healthcare from my employer"?
Yeah the poster is misguided about single payer. Doesn't mean you get to fabricate stuff, unless you explicitly state you're doing satire I guess.

Bernie is gonna win this primary fair and square. He doesn't lie about his critics, doesn't make ott hyperbolic statements about his critics. He refutes his critics.
You're a very sharp guy and you gotta a terrific wit. You are a dedicated Bernie supporter. Most always enjoy your posts.
So if you think posting this kind of stuff helps Bernie win undecided voters and soft/persuadable by all means go for it.
However in my opinion it detracts from Bernie's message.
Have a great night and carry on.

(35,619 posts)Her criticism of Bernie Sanders' single-payer bill is just trying to score points.
If she were sincere about the federal-issue, then she would have said that Obamacare should be completely federalized (currently, states can create their own ACA websites, and states run Medicaid).
