(12,530 posts)Thus the inference that I would lose money if I were to wager on this.
I do hope we have a significant endorsement coming, but I do realize full-well that it will not be Bill Clinton. For what it's worth, I'm almost certain it won't be Joe Biden either--but that would be really nice.

(30,439 posts)Bernie says he's going after Trump supporters:
http://www.politico.com/story/2015/12/bernie-sanders-donald-trump-217147
Maybe Trump says "fuck it" and endorses him?

(9,625 posts)I was thinking Baskin Robbins, as he already has Ben & Jerry.

(7,960 posts)Springsteen's been uncharacteristically quiet over Trump's using "Born in the U.S.A" at his events. This would give him a chance to take Trump down publicly--and of course his biggest fan Chris Christie too.
My other choice: Jimmy Carter.

(7,960 posts)He's cancer free but likely still pretty weak. I'd love to see it though.

(24,411 posts)This has got to be a heavyweight.
My guess is that it's someone on DC--because doing the press conference in NH makes it easier for a west coaster to endorse then get back to work/home quickly.
I think it's a big DC politician OR
a big medical association or organization (American Medical Association) that could lend major credibility to Bernie's healthcare plan, which is under attack from the entire lying Clinton family tree.
The AMA would shut the lying tree (and all its apples) down real quick.

(22,308 posts)We are still about 2 weeks from Iowa. IMO, that means we are a week or so early for that large an endorsement (but then again, what do I know?).
Robert Reich was one of Bill Clinton's economic advisers and is pretty well known and liked in our party. He has also made some pretty strong statements which seem to support Bernie's view on economics.
One example: (sticking to 4 paragraph rule so this may not be as concise as I would like)

Bernie Sanders says break them up and resurrect the Glass-Steagall Act that once separated investment from commercial banking.
Hillary Clinton says charge them a bit more and oversee them more carefully.
VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV
Given all this, Hillary Clintons proposals would only invite more dilution and finagle.
The only way to contain the Streets excesses is with reforms so big, bold, and public they cant be watered down busting up the biggest banks and resurrecting Glass-Steagall.

I say Reich now, and if possible, Warren in a week.
Segami
(14,923 posts)...and say Martin O'Malley is going to drop out and endorse Bernie Sanders with his 4.6% supporters. Its a stretch but O'Malley just barely squeaked into the next debate where NBC set the floor minimum at 5%. He's still a young man and will survive to come back and fight another day.........progressives will remember his endorsement......JMO....
I don't have any money riding on my pick so bold I'll go........
Motown_Johnny
(22,308 posts)It would make more sense for him to go through the process to at least New Hampshire if I am right.
He would also gain more exposure if he dropped out and stayed neutral for a while. Then you have him endorse a little before Super Tuesday.
He is an even bigger get than Warren. I think it is way early for him to be rolled out. Besides, this would be a terrible way to tell his supporters he is dropping out.
Then again, what do I know?

Sorry
Yes, bad joke.. and kinda gross.... but I couldn't help myself.
NorthCarolina
(11,197 posts)but if so, why NH and not MD? To keep it under wraps until the announcement? I see your point that a Bernie endorsement by O'Malley could be a feather in his cap for the future. It's becoming quite obvious that the Clinton era is pretty much dead, so what you say seems quite plausible as he looks ahead.
Biden or Warren I don't think would be ready to publicly endorse this early in the game.
Segami
(14,923 posts)if Bernie begins to surge.
I don't know.....but Martin could turn a loss into a future gain if he decides to retool......He could play kingmaker at this critical junction.

(141,926 posts)We're in.
Thanks to your support, NBC executives have heeded our call and are allowing all three Democratic candidates to bring our message and vision to the debate stage this Sunday.
Together, you and I have been fighting against the undemocratic debate schedule from the beginning. From the party bosses in Washington to the media elite in New York, too many have been trying to make it harder for Americans to hear from the candidates and make an informed decision. This time, we stood up, and we won.
But I still need your help in this fight.
We have 18 days to the Iowa Caucuses, and we need to put all the resources in the state that we canand you can help us do it. We need to hire at least 5 more organizers by the end of the week, and your donation can make that happen.
Help us fight against special interests. Help us have a strong ground game. Help us surprise the country on caucus night.

Thanks,
Martin OMalley

(12,041 posts)Reich has been promoting Bernie since the time he entered the race, while I am not sure that he has actually said the word "endorse" he has said so many positive things about Bernie that everyone already knows he is a supporter. I am pretty certain the announcement tonight is not him because when they tease a major announcement like this they want there to be some element of surprise and Reich is already known to be a Bernie supporter.
Motown_Johnny
(22,308 posts)although it was from June, I am not aware of any change.

Several of you have asked me to endorse Bernie Sanders candidacy for president. As chairman of the board of Common Cause, a non-partisan citizens' group dedicated to getting big money out of politics, I don't feel free to endorse any candidate. But let me say I think highly of Bernie, agree with just about everything he says and stands for, and am thrilled hes in the race. His voice and conviction have already added immeasurably to the national conversation about Americas staggering inequality and what we must do about it. And Im encouraged that apparently so many of you are backing him.

(12,041 posts)I do think that he pretty much already has given Bernie his unofficial endorsement however. Even if he won't say the word "endorse" his words make it very obvious who he supports.
Motown_Johnny
(22,308 posts)I think the calculation might have changed based on recent polling.
If he really wants to get money out of politics, and I think he does, getting Bernie elected is the way to go.
Bjorn Against
(12,041 posts)If he is heading a non-partisan organization then he really can't endorse without leaving that organization first. He really doesn't need to officially endorse though, anyone who has read the things he has said recently already knows he supports Bernie.

(12,041 posts)I do not think that endorsement will be announced tonight however. If Jessie Jackson endorses I would expect that endorsement to be announced in South Carolina rather than New Hampshire.

(5,066 posts)I have thought of this.you would think this would wait after NH leading into SC which is why i considered it a wild thought of mine.
although maybe bernie wants to start ot build momentum for post NH.he does have a rally scheduled next week In Alabama.
Motown_Johnny
(22,308 posts)That would make even bigger news. Rev. Jackson's effect on Iowa would be nominal given that it is mostly white and most people there have already made up their minds.
If Bernie does win Iowa, then the endorsement in Alabama would be huge news. If he does not win Iowa then the endorsement in Alabama would help regain the momentum going into New Hampshire.
I think that endorsement is coming, just not yet.
Motown_Johnny
(22,308 posts)Rev. Jackson is much loved among the AA community, and as Bill Clinton reminded us in '08, Jesse Jackson won South Carolina (too).

(96,882 posts)it's not a celebrity. Why make a lot of hoopla for something so inconsequential?
It's not Warren. The twitterverse would have leaked it by now.

(19,537 posts)Though I shouldn't try to put words in his mouth, because he was such a great man whether he were to do that or not. His life's actions taking on MTV for what they did to black artists, and many other work he's done speak for itself. But the timing would be that this would happen about now if he did have such an announcement in what appear to be many post-mortem announcements he had planned earlier.
Maybe Howard Dean's brother James Dean personally endorsing Bernie, right after DFA's endorsement was announced for Bernie. Would be consistent as leader of the DFA for him to do so. Perhaps that would lead to a more "quiet" Dean Scream on Howard's part?
