Why did Chris Matthews not defend Clinton?

when Fiorina went after her about the Clinton Foundation, etc? She was far more outspoken than Donald Trump though Matthews did not sputter and defend Clinton. Instead he had a worried look on his face.

1. It's strange how he sometimes allows people to talk...he let crazy Michelle Bachman talk, too.

Then someone you are actually interested in, he interrupts. I didn't hear see the Fiorina segment, just the part about they had met.

2. No. This was markedly different for Matthews. Fiorina went much further than anything that

has been printed lately. Matthews silence spoke volumes. The looks on the faces of some of the Democrats at the SOTU was interesting.... Something is definitely afoot.

I saw looks of anger, worry, concern, disdain?, and almost giddy happiness on one.

Words alone never give you a complete picture (especially since so many politicians are experts in espousing b.s.).

Like, h just hears them blah blah blah blah blah and then they pause, and he asks his next scripted question, etc. But with people who have something to say, he actually hears 'em, and engaged... In his bloviating hufflepuff manner.
