CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) On the eve of the next Democratic debate, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders announced his support for legislation that would reverse a 2005 law granting gun manufacturers legal immunity that he once supported.
Sanders' changed position came in a statement issued after days of attacks from rival Hillary Clinton, who had attempted to use his previous vote to undercut his liberal image.
The two candidates, along with former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, will meet Sunday for the last debate before voting begins in the Iowa caucuses a match-up that's expected to be far more contentious than their previous three forums.
The debate was scheduled to take place just blocks from the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, where nine parishioners were killed in a mass shooting last summer. Gun control has emerged as a central theme in the race, with Clinton citing it as one of the major differences between the candidates.

(40,656 posts)country, not just a state so he has to think larger. WHen HRC changes her mind on her war mania, her lavish and slavish devotion to banks and money, then you can smirk at Bernie. I am STILL waiting for her to 'evolve'.

I think it was a handgun case, and another with a rifle that are high profile. I'm not mentioning names, as I don't want any SLAPP suits. And there are a whole shitload more.
This causes hundreds or thousands to get 'accidentally' shot each year, around the world. In at lease one of the above, the manufacturers didn't want to issue a recall for cost and the fear it would be tantamount to admission that there was a design flaw or inferior metals that would wear or get jammed with debris. So, they let this defect exist for decades.

(4,387 posts)...they're already liable for things like that. You just have to prove negligence, which is difficult no matter the product or the manufacturer.
Since I just looked it up for my other thread, here is a short summary of what they're considered liable for under current law:
"However, both manufacturers and dealers can still be held liable for damages resulting from defective products, breach of contract, criminal misconduct, and other actions for which they are directly responsible in much the same manner that any U.S. based manufacturer of consumer products are held responsible. They may also be held liable for negligence when they have reason to know a gun is intended for use in a crime."

(1,941 posts)just want gun dealers sued into bankruptcy because they sell guns. Under PLCAA, gun dealers can still be sued for illegal sales and defective products.

The controllers are responsible for this important legislation. Back in the 90s/ early 2000s, gun controllers attempted to bankrupt the industry by keeping the companies perpetually defending frivolous lawsuits. The idea wasn't to win in the court room but to bankrupt the companies due to legal fees and court costs.
Bernie supported PLCAA, because it was the right thing to do. He said so himself several times over the last few months. Once the primary is over, Hillary is going to drop the gun control charade like a bad habit. Mark my words. She will be back to telling the Annie Oakley stories. Why? Because gun control is an extremist, far left issue that no one really understands or cares about.

And still you don't deny it.
Ok, but remember, you asked for it. Run away now and everyone will see it for what it was.
What is it that is being blocked by the PLCAA right now, that you seek to enable by the repeal of the PLCAA?
What specific door do you see its repeal opening up, that isn't already open?

All of these guys are imperfect, I find that appealing... I think it was Abe Lincoln that said a man who has no vice has no virtue either...
That's true...
