(2,992 posts)But some State officials, who are carreer diplomats, and close to the Clintons, didn't left along with her when she stepped down in 2013.
My take is more that, maybe, some of those very officials are determined to protect their candidate, including using the wrongest way by trying to undermine from within the current Admin job.

(2,992 posts)Yeah it sounds weird!
1. US lifts sanctions
2. Hillary issues a statement when she asks for more sanctions over missile issues
2. US puts new sanctions!
That says a lot about how strong Clintonworld holds ANY Dem powerstructures!

Autumn
(49,019 posts)and attack. You have no knowledge of what went on just an opinion, same as everyone else . I'll say it again. I think one of her friends at State leaked to her that Obama was going to impose sanctions and that's why she came out for sanctions. As far as I'm concerned hat's shady as all fuck and typical Hillary. I won't lose a second of sleep over what you think of me.
hrmjustin

(62,536 posts)They did the missile tests in Oct and then again in Dec, and the Obama administration decided they would consider new sanctions more than two weeks ago, publicly stated.
In retrospect it should've been seen coming, and if her campaign had a contact (on the timing), that's fine. The timing and optics was what was suspect to me, because it seems odd to pull a "Not the Onion" style messaging right after something good happens, which is what tells me she probably had a contact giving her a heads up. Coming out for the sanctions before they get implemented makes her look strong, especially with all the mockery that they expected to happen.
First clever move I've seen in weeks.
Autumn
(49,019 posts)As for shady or not ? My opinion is that is was shady and I have come to expect that from her campaign. YMMV

(49,019 posts)Here's another opinion by another person.
Four Americans detained in Iran Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian, former U.S. Marine Amir Hekmati, Christian pastor Saeed Abedini, and Nosratollah Khosravi-Roodsari were released as part of the exchange. A fifth American in custody, a student by the name of Matthew Trevithick, was released separately on Saturday.
Bauer also tweeted that while he was imprisoned in Iran, whenever I heard Hillarys voice, my heart would sink. All she ever does with Iran is inflame tensions.
He expressed shock, or perhaps sarcasm, at the fact that Clinton the Democratic front-runner in a narrow primary of three was calling for sanctions, rather than Republican front-runners Donald Trump or Ted Cruz.

(49,019 posts)I responded to this topic because I found it interesting that Hillary jumped right on the sanctions without waiting to see how it polled. Hillary is very cautious. And I also think it reasonable to believe that Hillary had inside knowledge of Obama's coming sanctions from one of her contacts at State.

(2,427 posts)It is glaringly obvious that she had knowledge beforehand and wanted to act tough before the debate. Can we be certain? No, but it's the most logical conclusion. Side note - all the threads about it last night were absent of the usual players but now we see them back at it. Were they told to sit tight, news is coming tomorrow? I know that's deep tin foil theory right there but, well, just thinking out loud.

(3,580 posts)The test of their ballestic missles violated the deal they made. I assume Hillary had some knowledge of what was in the deal and made her statement after the hostages were released and the deal was done. If Bernie had a better handle on what is going on on the world he may have also made the same statement. Or are Bernie supporters making the argument he doesn't plan to enforce what Iran agreed to?
That is my question, is Bernie going to uphold the deal we made with Iran or is he not interested or aware of this major foriegn policy accomplishment.

(33,090 posts)They were working together. It is very possible that Hillary was asked to make a phone call or two to someone she has a close(er) relationship with to move things along.
I guess I should no longer be shocked at some of the stuff posted on DU but if you don't know the first damn thing about how diplomacy works why are people so willing to post their absolute ignorance, even on the internet?
