And I love the gorgeous buildings that were built under FDR in the 30's and 40's under the WPAgiving jobs to starving artists and writers and leaving us with these great structures in our public buildings and parks.

(94,480 posts)...and ESPECIALLY if you doing it on a Democratic blogsite...
...you've already lost the argument.
FWIW, I'm NOT a Democratic Socialist. I'd be happy to be called a Social Democrat however (see, in English, the first word modifies the second one.)

(94,480 posts)...it's the voters that ARE scared of them that I'm worried about.
And my point stands. If the word "Socialist" isn't scary, why are you wasting time telling us that the word "Socialist" isn't scary?

(5,927 posts)I just picked up some really good arguments for Democratic Socialism that will be necessary in the near future. I also am concerned that the average murkan might need to hear these arguments and I want to be informed and prepared for that.
So I, for one, am glad that this is being discussed.
Jokerman
(3,518 posts)I have no doubt that there are low-information voters out there who can be made to fear the word but the vast majority of these people aren't going to vote for the Democratic nominee no matter how solid her ties to corporatism may be.
As for your point, I see nothing in the OP about fear, just an accurate reminder to some that Democratic-Socialism has been a part of this country since before most of us were born.
Besides, you sound like your trying to make the sad argument of "can't win, don't try". That didn't work eight years ago and won't work this year.

(12,296 posts)I personally think the OP is what our response should be, en masse, to both the DNC/HRC camp and the GOP.
Average Joe's will understand and get behind us when it's explained this way, and the Boogey Man will be disarmed.

(68 posts)....and reaches back to flush the toilet, they are a socialist. That's one thing that most people take for granted and I like to remind anyone who claims to be 'conservative', 'anti-government', or just 'bat-shit crazy'. If it were not for government, you'd be squatting on the side of the road with no one to clean up your #&@!.

He said that FDR stole a lot of Norman Thomas' platform AFTER he was elected President. Told me that there was basically no difference in the Democratic and Republican platforms in 1932.
Dad's little brother never mutated into a Kennedy Democrat and kept voting for something with a yin-yang symbol in red and white called North American Technocracy.
I'm a Democratic Socialist too!
Dad said, "I bet when they were counting ballots they wondered who that filthy Communist was in Ashtabula County?" (NE Ohio, right on Lake Erie)
