2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumClinton calls Bernie part of the 'establishment'
http://www.cnn.com/2016/01/21/politics/hillary-clinton-bernie-sanders-establishment-iran-normalization/index.htmlShe also attacked his experience and fitness to lead the country, criticizing his suggestion that the U.S. should warm its relationship with Iran.
The Democratic front-runner told CNN's Wolf Blitzer on "The Situation Room" that Sanders' charge that Planned Parenthood and the Human Rights Campaign support Clinton because they are all part of the establishment didn't make sense to her.
"I just don't understand what that means. He's been in Congress, he's been elected to office a lot longer than I have," Clinton said.
She noted she only served in the Senate for eight years.
"He's been in the Congress for 25. And so I'll let your viewers make their own judgment," Clinton said.
Just when you thought this race couldn't get any weirder.

sounds pretty much like a carpetbagger to me
Art_from_Ark
(27,247 posts)versus someone who moves to a state specifically to run for public office there and launches her campaign almost immediately upon arrival.
One is a carpetbagger, the other isn't. And you know darn well which one is.

(3,316 posts)Seems pretty simple to understand
Art_from_Ark
(27,247 posts)He moved to a state to live there. He did not move there specifically to run for office. Hell, if I moved to Missouri, then decided I wanted to run for office there 8 years after I moved there, I would NOT be a carpetbagger-- by that time I'd be an established resident. And people on DU would probably support my campaign.
Hillary, on the other hand, moved to New York SPECIFICALLY to run for office, and she started her campaign almost as soon as she got there.
That's a BIG freaking difference.

(2,980 posts)I do not think it means what you think it means.
It refers to someone working to get elected in a area that they have no ties in, and in most cases as the result of desperation on part of one political party
When Bernie ran for senate, he had been in Vermont for four years. When Hillary ran, she hadn't been a resident for even a year - In fact, the ONLY reason the Clintons bought a home in New York was for the express purpose of her running for election.
So, where as Hillary 'moved' to New York for the express purpose of running for their elections, Sanders had been a resident in Vermont for about 3 years - Not out of any desire to run for elections, but simply because he thought 'hey, Vermont looks nice, I'm no longer stuck in collage, lets have a change of scenery' - before getting started in politics in 71.

Or is she trying to pick up the "stupid" demographic? You know, the people so uninformed that they'll actually fall for this pathetic deception.
Either way, she's not fit to be president.

A randomly-selected Jury of DU members completed their review of this alert at Thu Jan 21, 2016, 11:34 PM, and voted 2-5 to LEAVE IT ALONE.
Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Even if not photoshopped, the attack is blatantly sexist. I dislike Hilary for her record and (lack of) beliefs, not because she's not pretty without make-up.
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No Democrat would post this. Shabby beyond endurance.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE

(3,580 posts)So has Clinton, although she has held office less time than he has. I'm trying to figure out what the outrage is about. On one hand I hear Bernie has worked so well with his peers in Congress so he'll have no problems getting his agenda through but then I hear he's like a maverick outsider.

(114,904 posts)He doesn't play footsie with big money interests or curry large donors. He doesn't observe quite a few political conventions. In every way but gender, Hillary is a very conventional, establishment politician.

Your judgment is not sound.
