Hillary Clinton pins 'establishment' label on Bernie SandersBy Tal Kopan, CNN

Washington (CNN)Hillary Clinton on Thursday sought to turn Sen. Bernie Sanders' "establishment" attack right back on him -- saying he served in Washington much longer than she did.
She also attacked his experience and fitness to lead the country, criticizing his suggestion that the U.S. should warm its relationship with Iran.
The Democratic front-runner told CNN's Wolf Blitzer on "The Situation Room" that Sanders' charge that Planned Parenthood and the Human Rights Campaign support Clinton because they are all part of the establishment didn't make sense to her.
"I just don't understand what that means. He's been in Congress, he's been elected to office a lot longer than I have," Clinton said.
She noted she only served in the Senate for eight years.
"He's been in the Congress for 25. And so I'll let your viewers make their own judgment," Clinton said.

(509 posts)During the first debate I had a thought...that Clinton bragging about all of her congressional endorsements was not actually a net positive for her.
Congress is really disliked. So I understand why she's trying to toss this at Bernie. But he's inoculated by virtue of having NOT been a member of the Democratic party.
I've always been a registered Democrat. That doesn't mean I love the party, and I particularly don't love the DNC or DC Dems in general.
Her advisors don't get it. This charge isn't going to float because people know his record. Or they don't know him at all. He is the opposite of establishment because he's an iconoclast.

I still have cancelled checks made out to the "Fund".
Not sure what your problem is with him calling it a fund.
http://www.hrc.org/hrc-story/about-our-logo
When HRCF was founded in 1980, it was primarily a fund for supporting pro-fairness congressional candidates. The rebranding in 1995 announced to the country that, in the words of then- Executive Director Elizabeth Birch, "We're so much more than a fund."
Now you found it. You're welcome.

And I even vaguely remember it. I think they merged in the late 80s when I started becoming politically aware.
On edit: I see from your post above it was in the 90s. But I do remember it being called, "Fund."
Thanks for that link!

(14,945 posts)been elected to office a lot longer than I have," Clinton said.
You might be part of the establishment if;
1. You give paid speeches to corporations.
2. You take money from Wall Street and corporations for your presidential campaign.
3. Your endorsements from organizations are from people in power (the establishment) bypassing
the rights of the individuals to vote for your endorsement.
4. You left the White House broke after your husbands administration and you are now
worth $111 million dollars. (You would not be part of the establishment if you won
the lottery. Being part of the establishment means having connections in high places; the government,
banking institutions, Wall Street, the MIC, etc.)
I guess I need some sense shaken into me because I understand what being part of the
establishment is.
Hillary is the establishment.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
