2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumNYT: Karl Rove's Super PAC has been running attack ads in Iowa and NH since September
attacking one Democratic candidate, Hillary:
The new digital ad hitting Hillary Rodham Clinton is called, cheekily, Orange Is the New Black part a nod to the orange suit Mrs. Clinton is wearing in the Las Vegas news conference she held about her home-brew email server, and part a play on the Netflix series that features women in prison.
{snip}
The 30-second spot is the brainchild of American Crossroads, the Karl Rove-founded super PAC. The ad is starting on Monday to coincide with Mrs. Clintons visit to Iowa, and is part of a $10,000 buy.
The ad uses only footage of Mrs. Clinton and her own words at the August news conference during which she tried to defend her use of a personal email service while secretary of state. In a series of focus groups this summer, the super PAC found that using Mrs. Clintons words against her was one of the more effective ways of attacking her.
I dont know how it works digitally at all, a flustered Mrs. Clinton says in the ad, before the question, How could she possibly serve as president? flashes across the screen.

And in NH, from the American Crossroads website:
September 18, 2015 by Admin
WASHINGTON As Hillary Clinton tries a new apology strategy to put her email scandal in the rearview mirror, today American Crossroads welcomed Hillary Clinton back to New Hampshire with a digital ad entitled Orange is the New Black. The ad uses footage from Hillary Clintons infamous August 18th press conference in Las Vegas.
Why is he only attacking Hillary?

(24,411 posts)...and I've not seen ONE television ad attacking Hillary. None.
I live in the largest media market in the state (Des Moines area). We also have our tv on as background noise all of the time (bad habit, I know). My husband and I both work from home.
I'd like to know more about when and where these ads were running, because this Iowan has seen no evidence of them.
We've seen ads from Clinton, Sanders and all of the Republicans. Nothing anti-Hillary.

(15,512 posts)including this one:
ORLANDO, Fla. Inside an office park here, about a dozen women gathered to watch a 30-second television spot that opened with Hillary Rodham Clinton looking well-coiffed and aristocratic, toasting champagne with her tuxedoed husband, the former president, against a golden-hued backdrop.
The ad then cut to Mrs. Clinton describing being dead broke when she and her husband left the White House, before a narrator intoned that Mrs. Clinton makes more money in a single speech, about $300,000, than an average family earns in five years.
The message hit a nerve. Shes out of touch, said one of the women, who works as a laundry attendant.

(51,557 posts)Yet Sanders still ran a shitload of his own ads. He ran so many ads he has outspent Hillary on ads. So between the right wing's anti-Hillary ads and Sanders' ads, that is a shitload of ads being run against Hillary. Amazing she has managed to hold her own despite being targeted like that from all sides.
Same ol' same old. It's going to be a long eight years.

because any ads that ran against Hillary (from Rove) were hidden or flew under the radar.
Like I mentioned before, our television is on 24/7 and my husband and I work from home and have the tv on in the background all day. You would think that if Rove was running these ads, he would have played them in Iowa's largest media market.
I've never seen these ads, nor have I heard about them. If the suggestion is that Rove has been running these ads in Iowa since September, wouldn't we have heard about them before? Wouldn't they be up on youtube? Wouldn't social media have discussed them, disseminated them?
You can't just "run an ad" in a vacuum today. Social media picks up on it. Look at Bernie's ads. They're all over Twitter, FB, and an untold number of online sites.
Has anyone on DU EVER seen one of these Rove-created Hillary ads...ever?
Maybe there's some misunderstanding about where these ads actually played. Or when they began playing.

(51,557 posts)The OP documents the showing of the ads. I assume you don't have a wall of TVs set to every channel that airs in Iowa.

(24,411 posts)Where have these ads been that have been supposedly running?
It's not just CoffeeCat's house. I realize (and I said earlier) that I may have missed an ad.
However, social media would not miss the ad. The ad would be blasted all over Twitter, FB, You Tube and of course it would have been posted and discussed here on DU.
Seriously...has ANYONE seen a Karl Rove, anti-Clinton ad in Iowa or elsewhere this Fall?
Clinton is suggesting that these Rove ads are hurting her campaign. Since she's tanking in Iowa, I just assumed she was claiming that the ads were running in Iowa.
I don't believe that this is the case, but I'm open to new information.
This sounds completely made up. Where is the evidence that these ads have been running Iowa or NH?
Please. Show me anything.

(51,557 posts)People watch YouTube on their TVs (I do).
And AmericanCrossroads just posted another anti-Hillary ad 5 days ago specifically aimed at Iowans, entitled "Hillary's Bull Market." It intones, "Wall Street in the White House? Iowa deserves better." Sounds a lot like Bernie's Wall Street ad.
You can search for them yourself on YouTube if you don't believe me. I don't want to post the links because I don't want to give Rove the clicks.

(24,411 posts)I guess I'm wondering--because they've practically been hidden under a bushel--if they've had any impact whatsoever.
I doubt they have in Iowa. I don't think anyone cares what Karl Rove does.
I'm not yet clear what "talking point" the Hillary people are trying to further with regard to these ads?
Are they suggesting that she's such a formidable force that even Rove is trying to stop her?
Or, are they trying to further the notion (as you just suggested) that Bernie Sander's message is so awful that even Karl Rove agrees with him.
Silly.
I'm not getting what the Clinton camp is suggesting that this all means. I'm sure we'll know shortly!

(24,411 posts)Hilarious.
The facts don't support that disinformation. Sanders beats Trump, Rubio and Kruz in all polls that show them matched up in the GE.
Furthermore, Sanders beats Trump, Rubio and Cruz by wider margins than Hillary.
That talking point is pure bullshit and is easily refuted by pulling up the latest polls.
If this is what they're going for--with Rove's ads, then all I can do is feel sorry for them.
If they want to suggest that bananas are pink with purple polka dots, they can do that all they want. All we have to do is hold up a bunch of bananas, and those flimsy talking points are clearly obliterated.
Wow, is this a crazy-on-steroid political season--in Iowa and otherwise. I've never seen anything like it.
Skwmom
(12,685 posts)Yes. So why in the heck do you think they are running it?
artislife
(9,497 posts)Maybe it is because they feel like you do, that she will win the nomination. And they are vying for the White House, too.
Not that it will happen.
