Your candidate calls on us all to give up all dreams forever.

And it's far more heroic to fight for free healthcare and college, than going to the moon. Free healthcare and college can liberate the people. Going to the moon ended up being meaningless.

True heroism is trying to change life.

It's sad that you think we shouldn't try to do that.

Education is a benefit to society, not just to the individual. Free college would make education possible for less affluent people without chaining them to lifelong debt, which is a detriment to society and not just the individual. The many thousands of people who are saddled with crushing student loans are pretty much stuck in their parents' basements, unable to buy homes or start families. How is this good for the country? Seems to me that free college would be my contribution as a taxpayer to the future prosperity of people who would in turn help the next generation of students.

Same with single payer health care that covers everybody without for-profit private insurance companies siphoning 20% or more off the top. Everybody can go to the doctor. Nobody has to worry about satisfying a high deductible or covering co-pays. The ACA is an improvement but it still leaves a lot of people out. Health care for everyone benefits everyone else. Fewer people would be sick and unable to work - and unable to pay taxes, having to rely instead on welfare, which we all pay for. And single payer is ultimately cheaper than private coverage. How is this not good for all of us?

But Hillary says no because we just can't do that. We can't dream or hope for a better country - just more of the same.

I remember the early1960s when tuition at state colleges and universities was almost free -- only about $400 per semester. We think of free tuition at public universities as some kind of new progressive idea, but it is actually a step back into the past. We know how to do it. We just need the will.

At the time, going to the moon was an outlandish idea, but we did go there. We had the will to do it.

As it deserves, I might point out, because it is nothing but right wing rhetoric that I'm surprised you're trying out on here.

I pay lots of taxes, hill and once, just ONCE I'd like to see this government, which is supposed to be of, by and for me and the rest of the American people, do something that actually helps me and other Americans instead of boosting profits for Halliburton, General Dynamics, GEO, Corrections Corporation of America or Goldman Sachs.

Oh, wait...isn't your candidate owned and handled by the MIC, GEO and Wall Street? Gosh, the CEO of Goldman Sachs himself said Wall Street would be 'comfortable' with her.

And, hill, WHY should Wall Street be comfortable? After they fucked us all over and ruined so many lives and not a damned one of them went to jail or was held accountable in any meaningful way? Really?

Is that what you want? The status quo? More of the same?

Well, I don't. Sorry, but I'll be caucusing for Bernie. So, keep your free stuff and know that me, my family and most of the people with whom I associate will be supporting Bernie right to the White House.

Because I've had it up to my nostrils with the stench of the status quo.

I agree more with Elizabeth Warren, who believes that doing nothing -- not trying -- because "it is too hard is like crawling into bed with the billionaires who want to run this country like some private club."

That's from an e-mail I'd gotten on a speech Elizabeth gave on the Senate floor on the sixth anniversary of Citizens' United.

Those who are getting what they can from the government at the most expensive rates are the 1%. And until our leaders can figure out how to solve the economic disparity in order to give ordinary people a fighting chance to earn a sustainable living, I wouldn't berate anyone for needing government assistance.

Does Hillary inspire you to think this way?

38. Wow. Where does one even begin when unpacking this…
Mon Jan 25, 2016, 03:38 AM
Jan 2016

First, let’s start with the title of your OP. JFK proposed that we should go to the moon, and Sanders proposes that we should have access to free college education and health care.

Maybe it’s just me, but I actually think that granting free college and free health care would be easier than launching a human being into space, landing them on a celestial body, and then have them return to earth, all in one piece.

From my perspective, it seems that Sanders is asking for something a little less arduous than going to space, which makes free college and free health care seem reasonable by comparison.

Second, the meat of your OP, which is essentially designed to denigrate anyone that wants access to a college education and health care as a free loader who just wants to take from society, and contribute nothing in return.

Here’s a thought – maybe the people that want health care and a college education actually want to give back to their communities, to their country, but are too economically depressed to do so.

Maybe my generation would have liked to buy a house after graduating college, like our parents before us.

Maybe my generation would like to be able to able to contribute more to local businesses, but we can’t with any degree of regularity, because our hospital bills are so massive that all we have left over goes straight to Wal-Mart or Target, because that’s all remains in our price range.

Maybe my generation would like to get a college education so we can access the tools necessary to make our country, and our world, a better place to live.

Maybe there are members in my generation that had dreams of being architects or doctors or lawyers or artists or writers or musicians or engineers, but had to settle for something less because they were either unable to qualify for federal aid, or too afraid of plunging themselves into catastrophic levels of debt that follows you regardless of your financial situation.

Not even Hillary Clinton thinks that people that desire a free college education are greedy and want something from the government.

In the first debate, she said that college shouldn’t be free for the rich, but didn’t oppose the idea of it being free or affordable for those in the middle and lower classes.

Your handle says that you support Hillary Clinton, but Hillary Clinton would be ashamed of the right-wing rhetoric you use in her name.

Mon Jan 25, 2016, 04:32 AM
Jan 2016

"A rising tide lifts all boats." Educate our citizenry and the entire country benefits from innovation and increased production. It's a small investment made in our country that benefits us all, unlike subsidies for corporations that funnel profits to offshore tax havens, for example.

Keep things the way they are now, where your state school tuition buys a minor league sports system comprised of unpaid players, and few will continue to be able to afford a higher education.
