-snip-
It's been clear for a while that Romney is not the kind of guy you want to play touch football with. In two debates, Romney bragged about forcing Ted Kennedy to take out a second mortgage when he ran against him for Senate in 1994. Romney lost, but hey, at least he caused Kennedy a little pain. His killer instinct extends beyond politics. Before the Iowa caucuses, he called his son Craig on stage to tell the delightful story about the time at the Romney family triathlon (yes!) Romney and his daughter-in-law -- who had given birth to his grandchild a couple months before -- were the last two left in the race. Romney couldn't let his son's wife be only the second-worst athlete.
CRAIG ROMNEY: ...And it was down to my wife and my dad over here.
ROMNEY: I tripped her.
CRAIG ROMNEY: And it was kind of in the home stretch in the run there. And she had a slight lead on him. And he said that in that moment, he decided he was going to win that race or he was going to die trying. And you see this fight to the finish, and he went for this -- he gave it everything he had. He gave it a good kick and he beat her in the end. And he did almost die trying, by the way.
He passed out in a lawn chair and we didn't see him the rest of the day. He barely made lot of life. But it's that type of hard work, it's that type of determination, I think, that we need in the White House.

(115,280 posts)The fact that apparently his own family thinks this is a charming story, demonstrating Mittens' admirable competitiveness - where any halfway normal person, hearing a guy had tripped his own daughter-in-law (who had recently given birth) just to win a family game, would think, "What a dick!"
That whole family must be messed up.

(5,808 posts)The stories of his need to "win at all costs" have been told over and over. And still they continue to drip out, bit by bit. I cannot figure out how anyone in his right mind could possibly think Mitt is a "nice" man. Bah! He is a bully and a boor, too. The story of him pushing his way ahead of his grandchildren at a family gathering so he could fill his plate FIRST and was almost finished eating by the time the rest of the family got to the table is very telling about his character. And again, it's a story we got from one of his children. Apparently they think it is an amusing story that they want to share with the rest of us about the kind of man their father is. He sounds perfectly horrible, spoiled and self-centered. Just want we need in a President.

(21,925 posts)We all do things in life that we later regret as we mature. But Romney seems to think his actions were admirable and charming. He's learned nothing.

(3,678 posts)I'm not sure it would surprise me to be true. We already knew he had a mean streak. See: tackling fellow student and cutting off his objectionable haircut with a gang of kids.

I really despise this kind of person.

(3,222 posts)of jokes that are not really funny (and that aren't aren't actually jokes). You can tell in almost every instance that Romney is used to be surrounded by sycophants who desperately attempt to follow every weak lead that he provides. He is the opposite of the personality that should be running a large company, much less in charge of a nation.
