At least Clinton didn't invoke the support of the Almighty God in her speech

(47,803 posts)He at least has kind of a sense of humor
Rubio is a charmless, vapid automoton, programmed with hateful bile
But they're both truly awful

(41,101 posts)Wouldn't he be something to watch for the next four years in the White House? I'd have to come up with previously unexplored coping strategies.

(26,549 posts)The last time, IA voted for Santorum. The time before, IA voted for Huckabee.
The Republican side is utterly dominated by evangelicals. And they chose candidates who go on to lose everywhere else.

(2,807 posts)Some of these "Bernie supporters" act very much like they would rather have President Cruz than President Clinton. It is fucking nuts.
AgadorSparticus
(7,963 posts)This happens every election year. Democrats tearing each other from limb to limb. And then the vast majority will refocus in the general election to get down to business. I have faith this year will be no different. No one wants a fucking Cruz anything because that is just too horrific to even contemplate. Not even in jest, my friend. Not even in jest. Just seeing Cruz's face gives me orbital tics.

(7,963 posts)Sounds like you want to pick a fight. Apparently, it is a real grievance to suggest we are all in this together. Such blasphemy!

it is almost kind of funny, actually.

(2,807 posts)You won't ever catch me talkin' shit about Bernie that is for sure. I am just on Hillary's bus. She gets a raw deal and it isn't accurate how she is portrayed, by the rabid right who has been lying about her for years, and some Bernie folks who repeat those lies and throw some fresh shit on top of it.
Yeah, she is a powerful, well connected woman. No doubt. So?
AgadorSparticus
(7,963 posts)A lot of people i.e. Benghazi. She is a very intelligent and driven woman so I can see why she is targeted. Capable, driven women don't sit well with the ol boys club. When you look into her history (I have) she has always been a champion for certain vulnerable populations. I have no doubt she would make a great POTUS. And if she gets the nomination, I would support her in a heartbeat.
But i am feeling the Bern. The more I see him, the more I hear him speak, the more compelled I am to vote for him. He is different and has so much integrity. As much as I would LOVE to see a woman in office right now (trust me, strong pull for me), I am gravitating to someone with the integrity in their core and see what that would look like in the white house. I feel like he is different.
But either way, I do feel that the next potus will be a Democrat and will be instrumental in marked changes to society to improve the human Condition. I was really excited to see gay rights come to fruition. It marks a big change in our society and very exciting to witness. I hope we see more barriers brought down and I think we will with the next president.

(7,963 posts)Of people. Especially in Washington. You know why I am voting Bernie? Because not only is he different, but he proved he can win the general election. That was a clencher for me.
But Hillary is a great candidate too. And while we may not like everything she does, she is a helluva lot better than a rabid batshit crazy right wing evangelical lunatic. It seems to me, politics has moved to a new arena. Mainly that the right is so fucking crazy. And we shouldn't forget that. I don't come on to DU too often anymore, so i don't know all the in's and out's of who is on what team. I don't care. I won't engage in the Hillary v. Bernie bullshit, either. I will vote for both and I will defend both.
dixiegrrrrl
(60,161 posts)See, that's the thing.
We are all too often forced to choose between bad and worse.
Meanwhile, our Dem party has become Republican Lite, and only looks "not too bad" because the nutz like Cruz are so starkly Hitler II.
As a result, I get torn between Emma Goldman's quote: "if voting changed anything, it would be illegal"
to
All ballots should have an option for..."none of the above".
AgadorSparticus
(7,963 posts)I know what you are saying about the overall tilt to the right, but it is what it is. I personally will always vote for the more progressive candidate that has the BEST chances of winning. I won't throw my vote for just idealogue. There's too much at stake. I am not one who will vote for idealogue while Rome is burning down. Just turn your head to the right. It's a god damn circus.
And, for once, I am glad that a candidate like Bernie Sanders is getting the traction that we haven't seen in the past and is truly a viable candidate. I truly think he will take it all the way and I am excited about it. But just because I am voting for Bernie does not mean I am going to excoriate the next most progressive person out there.

(13,776 posts)President Cruz or President Rubio is unthinkable.
Volaris
(11,705 posts)Cruz NEEDED a win in Iowa to show that he has the backing of the Evangelical Base, or he would be about done. Trump can still clean house in NH (a more prescice indicator of who takes the nomination on their side anyway), and so the first 2 contests are essentially a wash.
the REAL knife fight for them is going to be in SC, mark my words. Get the popcorn its going to be very bloody.

Hillary is back to Universal Healthcare. The only way I can makes sense of that is to think she's planning to build on Obamacare by using federal marshals to reach out and enforce the mandate.
