(14,733 posts)You're not going to win over a lot of AA votes by attacking a black AG. It's like Bernie having Cornel West campaign for him - of dubious value given his outspoken attacks on Obama. So that commercial will probably still help Hillary in SC.

Because he isn't mentioning this doesn't negate the facts. Holder was a Wall St. puppet. And he endorsed Clinton. And she's bragging about it in her latest ad. Birds of a Wall St. feather stick together. Buzzards, every one feeding off what's left of the near-dead carcass of the middle class.

Um.Hmm.

(7,770 posts)CORNEL WEST: You can't talk about wealth and inequality, you can't talk about education, you can't talk about massive unemployment and under employment and you can't talk about drones being dropped on people in other parts of the world without talking about white supremacy and its ways in which it operates. It doesn't have to be overt. The president is right about that.
But too many black people are niggerized. I would say the first black president has become the first niggerized black president.
CNN ANCHOR: What do you mean by that?
WEST: A niggerized black person is a black person who is afraid and scared and intimidated when it comes to putting a spotlight on white supremacy and fighting against white supremacy. So when many of us said we have to fight against racism, what were we told? 'No, he can't deal with racism because he has other issues, political calculations. He's the president of all America, not just black America.' We know he's president of all America but white supremacy is American as cherry pie.
We're talking about moral issues, spiritual issues, emotional issues. White supremacy has nothing to do with just skin pigmentation, it has to be what kind of person you want to be, what kind of nation we want to be. Democrats and Republicans play on both of those parties in terms of running away from the vicious legacy of white supremacy until it hits us hard. Thank God for Ferguson. Thank God for the young folk of all colors. Thank God for Staten Island and fighting there. Thank God in Baltimore, now the precious folk in Charleston.

I tend to regard people who speak in such language to be toxic. Ironically, West's fan base is largely Obama-hating white purists who get a tingle in their leg when such invective is hurled at the President from their side-it legitimates their own psychological issues with the President and his race.
Dr. West is not talking issues when he race baits Obama, he's just being his Trumpian self.
P.S. When West criticizes Sanders for opposing reparations, we can take his posturing as actual policy critique rather than his typical "blacker than thou" schtick, as he showed when he attacked Ta-Nehisi Coates out of adolescent jealousy.

(7,770 posts)I'm here for policy and issues.
Name calling and casting aspersions is not gonna change policy.
President Obama and Attorney Generals Holder and Lynch are all nice people but haven't stopped cops from killing unarmed Black folks, mass voter disenfranchisement, and continued wage and other economic discrimination.
I'm looking for someone to tackle those issues. And I see it in Sen. Sanders platform on racial justice.

geek tragedy

He's already tackled that issue. Big time.

If it's such a big policy priority for you, curious that you never noticed that.
There are people who think Bernie Sanders will perform magic while in office and just blink his eyes and make those problems go away through sheer awesomeness. That's fantasy not policy.

They're going to take as much as they can get regardless. And Hillary, like Obama, will open negotiations with a position they've previously approved and then they'll push her back.
