Former secretary of state Madeleine Albright introduced Hillary Clinton at an event in New Hampshire on Saturday, telling the crowd and voters in general: Theres a special place in hell for women who dont help each other!
In polling, Clinton trails the Vermont senator Bernie Sanders in New Hampshire by an average of around 17 points. She leads him nationally by 15 to 20 points. In this weeks Iowa caucus, which Clinton won narrowly, the former secretary of state led Sanders among women by 53% to 42% but lost out among younger voters.

Personally, I trust young women to make up their own minds. No one gets to tell them what they have to do. Further, what kind of moron comes to the least religious state in the country and makes threats of hell?!

(1,342 posts)Her. I have been a female and a woman all my life and I am not owned by any man. I make my own decisions. She seems to be saying that if someone like Thatcher (evil to the core) should be voted for because she was a woman, regardless of positions. I don't think Hillary is horribly evil like Thatcher, but Albright's statement is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo WRONG!!! We as women, have viewpoints and we can vote our beliefs and Albright's thoughts that she has the line on g-d's views is INSULTING to all women!

I see strength in her eyes! My family is Scandinavian and are US citizens, and my ancestry should not matter. People don't care because I am from a WHITE race. It should be that way for ALL races.

(9,688 posts)As if they are both equally feminist icons.
I don't get that.
I fully understand the rapport that Albright, Kissinger - and no doubt Rice - have with Hillary Clinton. It has nothing to do with their sex, it has to do with how they represent the same face of US militarism. The imperial state. These people will say any kind of shit. We know that.
But I'm shocked at Steinem's recent comments. Shocked at their shallowness. Shocked at her apparent blindness. It's a part of her that I hadn't known existed. I don't understand it.

(9,688 posts)I don't recall ever being so light about my politics, that I'd feign interest in "democratic socialism" or any kind of "ism" just to get laid.
Sounds like a bar-room pickup...
In my non-political hormone-rampant most sex crazed years I was attracted by pheromones and by feeling comfortable and having fun in general, and I'd not give up those years for anything. As I aged into my 20's I was naturally attracted to feminist women. They seemed to have the brains - but I didn't know that they were feminists other than through noting the reading material that they scattered about. It included feminist books and magazines, along with all the rest of their interests.
To be sure, they knew that I was the most uninformed dolt, but they were and are kind.
I wouldn't say that I was interested in feminist thought because I wanted to get laid, but that the kind of women that I enjoy knowing have always been feminists and they introduced me to that thought. It's my fucking culture!
I really don't know what Gloria Steinem is talking about in this primary campaign. Even with mea culpas it seems very off the rails.
Slut shaming young women who're interested in the democratic socialist politics that Bernie Sanders espouses.
With or without her mea culpas, her words don't fit my life experience.

Albright: 'special place in hell' for women who don't support Clinton
Tom McCarthy in Concord, New Hampshire

Saturday 6 February 2016 15.36 EST
Former secretary of state Madeleine Albright introduced Hillary Clinton at an event in New Hampshire on Saturday, telling the crowd and voters in general: Theres a special place in hell for women who dont help each other!..............
Also--the context of the quote was abortion rights and the upcoming SC nominees:
....Albright was the first woman to be secretary of state and served during the presidency of Clintons husband, Bill. She closed her New Hampshire speech with an allusion to the ongoing struggle with Republicans over abortion rights.
Young women have to support Hillary Clinton. The story is not over! she said. Theyre going to want to push us back. Appointments to the supreme court make all the difference.
