FEELING THE YERN: WHY ONE MILLENNIAL WOMAN WOULD RATHER GO TO HELL THAN VOTE FOR HILLARY

There seems to be no shortage of bizarrely sexist assumptions as to why I, a Millennial feminist, am not voting for Hillary Clinton. But speaking as a Millennial feminist, let me assure you: None of them is accurate. Granted, the span of my political biography is only as long as it took Howard Dean to go from human rights crusader to insurance lobbyist. But the reason for my political disaffection is plain: I've spent my entire Millennial life watching the Democratic Party claw its way up the ass of corporate America. There's no persuading me that the Democratic establishment — from where it sits now — has the capacity to represent me, or my values.

If Millennials are coming out in droves to support Bernie Sanders, it's not because we are tripping balls on Geritol. No, Sanders's clever strategy of shouting the exact same thing for 40 years simply strikes a chord among the growing number of us who now agree: Washington is bought. And every time Goldman Sachs buys another million-dollar slice of the next American presidency, we can't help but drop the needle onto Bernie's broken record:

The economy is rigged.

Democracy is corrupted.

The billionaires are on the warpath.

Capitalism, as Vonnegut explained, is "what the people with all our money, drunk or sober, sane or insane, decided to do today." We've just spent a lifetime watching capitalism buy itself a government. And I'll be frank: It's not working well for most of us. Drones make orphans in our name. Our friends will die indebted. We are poisoning our own well.

The spectacle of our government's being bought is so obvious, even the youngest among us can see it. "With Hillary," eighteen-year-old Olivia Sauder told Times reporters at the Iowa Caucus, "sometimes you get this feeling that all of her sentences are owned by someone."

Ding, ding, ding.

I've even searched thru her list of "accomplishments" and couldn't find answers to them. The closest I've found to an answer: she gives speeches about the problem, speeches about what should be done.

But ACTUAL actions by Clinton to help women and children are rare...if my memory is correct, she even missed a few votes while in the Senate that were on helping women/children.

This is an excellent article and I encourage people to go to the link and read the whole thing.

FEELING THE YERN: WHY ONE MILLENNIAL WOMAN WOULD RATHER GO TO HELL THAN VOTE FOR HILLARY

The desperation of the Clinton campaign is evident in its resort to sexism before the first votes were even cast in New Hampshire.

And because of the clumsiness and ham-handedness of Sec. Albright and Gloria Steinem, the appeal is turning into a political disaster.

I don't think the Hillary campaign or the Hillarians yet comprehend how bad this "special place in hell" line is going to be for them.

As a political observer and activist for nearly 50 years, I had been thinking up to now that this Sanders-Clinton battle would go on for awhile, I am now not so sure. The way Hillary's political baggage is being revealed is making her burden even more ponderous than I had imagined -- and most of it is self-inflicted, i.e., the "artful smear" phrase has caused more attention to be focused on her brazen grubbing of bankster money.

Hillary is and has made her own political hell ... pun intended: I think her campaign is going to 'bern' up and be reduced to ashes sooner rather than later.

“Shame on Gloria Steinem and Madeleine Albright for implying that we as women should be voting for a candidate based solely on gender,” Zoe Trimboli, a 23-year-old from Vermont who supports Mr. Sanders and describes herself as a feminist, wrote on Facebook. “I can tell you that shaming me and essentially calling me misinformed and stupid is NOT the way to win my vote.”

With backlash growing, Ms. Steinem issued a retraction on Sunday morning.

running and insert anyone else with her same affiliations with WS, with hawking
for wars etc..Sanders would be doing just as well. I don't know if establishment
gets that about her. The threat, Warren, agreed not to run..despite how the
people kept pleading for her to do so..the DNC itself is corrupt, the Clinton
money machine spreads their influence around and they may have made a fatal
mistake this time narrowing her competition.

"sometimes you get this feeling that all of her sentences are owned by someone."

I still hear confusion by others as to their understanding of what this revolt is about,
some believe its about free stuff, they could not be more wrong. When we hear a presidential
candidate say out loud, I TAKE WS MONEY BUT IT MEANS NOTHING SIGNIFICANT
and expects to be trusted..well, I guess you can say that just may not work
anymore. Either that, or you'd need to be quite the cynic to accept that EVERYBODY
does it..even though Bernie does not fit that description.

Great OP, thank you and the title cracked me up...funny as hell.

And it pisses the establishment off - big time.

If I am alarmed, it is by the profound languor of the comfortable. What fresh hell must we find ourselves in before those who've appointed themselves to lead our thoughts admit that we are in flames? As I see it, to counsel realism when the reality is fucked is to counsel an adherence to fuckery. Under conditions as distressing as these, acquiescence is absurd. When your nation gets classified as a Class D structure fire, I believe the only wise course is to lose your shit.

The reason Wall Street is dropping zillions of quarters into Hillary's Super PAC-Man machine isn't because it wants change — it's because Wall Street sees revenue in her promises of keeping things much the same.

applauds you! I have two millennial grandchildren who have jumped on the band wagon for Bernie. Sure, I've been a political activist for their entire life and have prodded them to pay attention and to understand they should never think politics doesn't influence almost everything in their life. They both have college loans dragging them down and still live at home. I'm thankful that they live 5 minutes away and am able to have their input.

I've listened to their comments and have already told them that if I HAVE to vote for Hillary just because of the Supreme Court situation, I'm leaving the Democratic Party and becoming an Independent after that. Since I live in Florida and we're a closed Primary state, I have to remain a Democrat for now. Should Bernie win I will stay. But I do have to say that regardless if he does or does not win, he's ALREADY changed the game. There are many people who now believe they CAN go up against Goliath and take on a current elected official. Or are willing to try when once they felt they couldn't because they just didn't have the money to do so. Here in Florida it's already happening... DWS has finally gotten a person to Primary her. She's never had an opponent and now TIM CANOVA is running against her and people are excited. DWS has always been a DLC/THIRD WAY Democrat and hob nobs with the other side a lot. So many here are really pulling for him.

Ronald Reagan said a long time ago, I didn't leave the Democratic Party, the Democratic Party left me. That's about the only thing I think I wholeheartedly agree with, but even he wasn't anything like what we see on the other side.

AND we need to get RID of closed Primary states laws. It's disgusting!

Thank you for speaking out so clearly and intelligently.

I think this is my favorite part,,,,,snip: The reason Wall Street is dropping zillions of quarters into Hillary's Super PAC-Man machine isn't because it wants change — it's because Wall Street sees revenue in her promises of keeping things much the same. Under Hillary, our prisons will continue to punish for profit. Our schools will continue to be sold off to private contractors. And despite 87 percent of Democrats standing behind universal health care, Hillary insists it will "never, ever come to pass." Not from her, I guess, since she's taken over $13 million from the health care industry.

We really can't, America, says Hillary. Nope. Not ever. We are a powerful nation, kids, but one run by the Great Market God. Leave your moral gag reflex at the door. Close that pesky Overton window, won't you? And be a doll and bolt those tables to the floor. You'll love the moneylenders, dear. I do. Hell, my daughter married one! (/snip)

It bothers me greatly that 50% of democrats nationwide, can't see/refuse to see how selfish, self-centered, and owned by Wall Street Hillary is. Her vote, her opinions, her beliefs are determined by who pays her the most money. The money hasn't caused her to "change her vote", the money just cemented her opinion/thoughts in the way the payee wants BEFORE she votes/speaks!!!!

Based on what she has done / not done and said / not said, I can totally see her wanting to get Justices on the Supreme Court and finding the ones that are BARELY liberal/progressive, but conservative enough to pass confirmation,,,because she wouldn't want her legacy to be "the only President that couldn't get a justice confirmed"....hell, wouldn't put it past her to nominate 2 conservative ones first with the "promise" of getting a "more liberal" confirmed later.

However; If the election comes down to a choice between Hillary and any of the current Republican candidates, not voting for Hillary condemns the whole of humanity to that "special place in Hell".
The lesser of two evils is none the less--lesser.
Given the nature of the Fright wing's offerings, we have never been more threatened as a free people or a species.
I, for one will, be behind whoever gets the call to oppose the madness of these freaks and if they win the whole world will suffer the choices of those who could have made a difference.
Millennials are right to think their situation is dire, it is equally dire for all of humanity.

If anything concerns me at this pivotal moment, it's not the revolutionary tremors of the youth. Given the Great American Trash Fire we have inherited, this rebellion strikes me as exceedingly reasonable. Pick a crisis, America: Child poverty? Inexcusable. Medical debt? Immoral. For-profit prison? Medieval. Climate change? Apocalyptic. The Middle East is our Vietnam. Flint, the canary in our coal mine. Tamir Rice, our martyred saint. This place is a mess. We're due for a hard rain.
