MANCHESTER, N.H. Both Hillary and Bill Clinton knew she would lose here but not by this much.
Now, after a drubbing so serious as to call into question every aspect of her campaign from her data operation to her message, the wounded front-runner and her allies are actively preparing to retool their campaign, according to Clinton allies.
Staffing and strategy will be reassessed. The message, which so spectacularly failed in New Hampshire where she was trailing by 21 points when she appeared before her supporters to concede to Sanders, is also going to be reworked with race at the center of it.
Clinton is set to campaign with the mothers of Trayvon Martin and Eric Garner, unarmed African-Americans who died in incidents involving law enforcement officers and a neighborhood watch representative, respectively. And the campaign, sources said, is expected to push a new focus on systematic racism, criminal justice reform, voting rights and gun violence that will mitigate concerns about her lack of an inspirational message.
The gun message went silent in New Hampshire, remarked one ally close to the campaign. Guns will come back in a strong way. She is expected to highlight the problem of gun violence as the leading cause of death among African American men as she campaigns in South Carolina on Friday.

And sadly, it's a sure bet that they'll try and frame Bernie and his campaign and supporters (again) as racist and xenophobic, piling that on the sexism charge.

(3,666 posts)have a harder time trusting Hillary than blacks do I bet. Great deal of affection for the Clintons in that community and Obama's warm embrace of her only heightens it.
Sanders is basically running against Obama and everything he stood for. That sits will with lefties who are disappointed in Obama, not so much with Southern blacks, I bet.

(751 posts)She is going to turn off people b/c of pandering.
Guns are issue in African american communities, but its probably issue #5 (I believe guns should be outright banned). Bigger issue is lack of jobs, institutional racism, and corrupt police system.

(751 posts)And she should play it more. He basically credited the Clintons for giving him and other POC opportunity a leg up when he was coming up. I think they deserve credit for giving lots of political favors to POC and why they get unanimous support among establishment in black communities (I don't mean it as a slight).
Patronage is a big thing and credit to Clinton to taking care of black leaders.

(29,503 posts)I know her strategists monitor threads and discussions here and likely get material, so I'm saving up for after she loses the nomination, for "Now It Can Be Told" threads, lol.

(14,574 posts)Her losing speech tonight in NH sounded like she was once again taking a page from Bernie's book, but that's because the Third Way drift right didn't work.
Seriously, the truth is that Clinton is just a seriously flawed candidate, so seriously flawed that she won't even be able to win the primary let alone the general election.

She may hang on if she does that. Otherwise, it seems like it's an uphill battle.

It's difficult to keep up.

(24,010 posts)...rather than as the heart of democracy of, by and for the People.
It's like "branding" has gotten into Hillary's soul, as it has in so many others among our Democratic Party leadership. They've come to think like corporate CEOs and "branding" specialists, instead of thinking like PUBLIC SERVANTS.
Cuz that's who they hang out with--corporate CEOs and "branding" specialists. Hillary, and almost every Democrat I've held my nose and voted for, for about 40 years. They are not OF the People. They are not FOR the People. And how they gain power is not BY us, not really, but by soliciting millions of 1%er dollars to mesmerize people and propagandize their "brand" on TV and elsewhere.
Those who know what this is all about hold our noses and vote Democratic one more time, because the powers-that-be, the media and the 'TRADE SECRET' voting machine corporations have made fascism respectable, i.e., the alternative is a fascist. And those who don't know what's going on are kind of like zombies and vote like zombies, if they vote at all. And fewer and fewer do. Worst of all, perhaps, is that our Democratic leaders have LET fascism become respectable--have not fought against it, have enabled it, maybe even like it (cuz it makes them look "liberal" , and never, never ask a question like this: How did a Congress with an 8% approval rating get elected?
What a dismal state of affairs.
Until now.
Go Bernie!
Looking through but a few internet sites, I've seen a lot of sour grapes. And it's got to be a tough lose .....if a 10% victory signifies a "landslide," then tonight's loss was obviously harsh. But coming off as sore sports will only serve to damage their campaign. That's why well-run campaigns attempt to lose gracefully, especially when it is difficult.
Recommended.

(31,935 posts)How many black Americans were harmed by the war in Iraq? How many by inequality? How many by healthcare costs? How many by welfare reform? How many by fracking and crap EPA standards? How many can't afford college? It's all just talk; her actions speak far louder than her hollow words.

(464 posts)...republican turnout in the GE higher than Hillary Clinton talking about gun control. It wouldn't even just be republicans, it would be libertarians and independents who dont really pay attention but will hear on the news that "hillary is gonna take YOUR GUNS!!! I still believe she will be the eventual nominee but I think this is a mistake for the GE.
