New Reuters Poll: Romney Makes Small Gains from Debate

A new Reuters poll taken all post debate shows a small bump for Romney but also no damage to Obama

Pre-debate Head to Head=Obama +7

Post debate Head to Head=Obama +5


Romney's Post Debate Favorability Rating=51% (no pre-debate numbers)

Obama's Post Debate Favorability Rating=56% (same as pre-debate)


Change in opinion For Romney:

See Romney More Positively=27%

See Romney More Negativity=19%

No Change in Opinion of Romney=40%

Change In Republican Opinion of Romney (major reason for his positive gains)=36% positive (pre), 46% positive (post)

Change in Opinion for Obama:

See Obama More Positively=16%

See Obama More Negatively=18%

No Change in Opinion of Obama=54%


Who Do you Trust More On the Issues (no percentages given)

Obama=Taxes, social security, medicare

Romney=Economy, creating jobs, cutting the deficit

Very often, polls change 2% from one day to the other, when there's no debate.

Reuters does not know whether the gains were due to the debate or whether Romney would have cut the 7% lead to 5% anyway. Polls have noise.

I hope Obama knew what he was doing.

As Joe Trippi reported, Republican online registration has doubled since last night.

People who are undecided have to talk with their friends who also saw the debate and see what they think.

A few points towards Romney on each issue but not some dramatic shift. That could easily calm down after a week or so
